More than 50 years ago, a girl from Frankfurt, Germany, penned a diary shortly before her family was rounded up and murdered by Nazi soldiers. That little girl was the now-famous Anne Frank, and her life story remains a chilling tale of great importance for people of all religions, ages, and walks of life. Her story is touching in the worst of ways, but it’s also inspirational. Before she died at the age of 15, she had dreams of becoming an actress. Though these aspirations never came to fruition, her diary lives on in the form of a musical, Dreams of Anne Frank, bringing to life the harrowing and dramatic years when Frank and her family were trapped in hidden compartments, forced into hiding when Nazi Germany took control of the Netherlands. Adapted for the stage with song and dance by British dramatist Bernard Kops, Dreams of Anne Frank comes to the Area Stage Company (1560 S. Dixie Hwy., Coral Gables) with a premiere this Friday and running through March 30. Performances begin daily at 8 p.m., except 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets cost $10 to $35.
