Finesse Mitchell’s appearance this Sunday at the Miami Improv (3390 Mary St., Coconut Grove) is oddly appropriate. No, it has nothing to do with the former Saturday Night Live cast member, who’s well known for his character Starkisha or the nearly 30 celebrities he impersonated on the show, closing out his six-show run that night. It doesn’t even have anything to do with his many acting gigs, particularly on the Disney TV series A.N.T. Farm or appearances on talk shows ranging from The Today Show to Ricki Lake. Mitchell’s deepest local connection is that he’s a graduate of the University of Miami, where he played college football under Dennis Erickson and won a national championship. Mitchell’s return to the city of Miami just happens to coincide with the return of football season, and the skills he learned on the field clearly translate onstage. The only difference: He’d probably admit he’s gotten pummeled harder by an aggressive heckler than any opposing player ever did.
