The sensuous sounds and stylings of flamenco have grown in popularity outside of its Andalusian heartland, no more so than in Miami, which now has several festivals and its own companies. Ballet Flamenco La Rosa is one such troupe, which is just as comfortable performing in the intimate setting of the tablaos of Little Havana as it is during festivals at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). The cast of international dancers returns to the Arsht at its Carnival Studio Theater as part of the Arte Flamenco season this Thursday and Saturday for the world premiere of Directo al Corazón (Straight to the Heart). Created and choreographed by Flamenco La Rosa founder Ilisa Rosal, it is based on Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, with famed Spanish dancer La Truco taking the lead. We love it when Scandinavia meets Seville on the Boulevard. Another local troupe, Siempre Flamenco, will also perform an original piece, Furia de Color Flamenco, Friday, with lyrics by Federico García Lorca.
