Over the past five years of its official existence, the on-again, off-again Night of Weirds has morphed into a kind of bizarre extra limb for Churchill’s Pub (5501 NE Second Ave., Miami). In other words, it’s hard to imagine one without the other. The event is infamous around town for gathering some of the, well, weirdest musicians in the area to perform in Churchill’s darkest crevices. They are acts that are too outre, usually, even for the left-field hipsters, and who often barely fit into a genre. Where else could they commune and commingle than Churchill’s?
Night of Weirds has come and gone since its inception, but even when it seemed to be more gone than anything else, it has always bounced back. So this Tuesday, the loose collective of Weirds who have been making it all happen convene at Churchill’s to celebrate the get-together’s five-year anniversary. Longtime Weirds-watchers will recognize staples such as Sharlyn Evertz, Xela Zaid, the Curious Hair, and the legendary Laundry Room Squelchers on the bill. But a handful of new acts that toe the line between too weird and just weird enough will also appear, among them younger bands like Luma Junger and 90s Teen. Mr. Feathers’ laptop-driven Creature Tweaker Council will rule the back patio as usual.
