Fisher Island is Miamis mansion-on-the-top-of-the-hill. You can see it from a distance, but most of us will never get close enough to observe those who live there and thats a good thing. Who wants to keep battling traffic on I-95 when you know the type of luxurious life that awaits just a short ferry ride away? But if youre in the mood for some self flagellation and love to listen to American standards, you wont mind dropping a couple hundred bucks for An Intimate Evening with Michael Feinstein at Vanderbilt Mansion on Fisher Island this Monday. Yeah, thats right. They have concerts on Mondays on the richest island in the country.
Its for a good cause to benefit Legal Services of Greater Miami but thats not the point, or at least its only part of the point. The concert is really a chance for mainlanders to legally interlope on the isle of Oprah and Julia Roberts and rub elbows with people who can buy and sell our lives with a phone call. Feinstein is a multi-platinum selling and five-time Grammy-nominated pianist and singer who befriended such musical heavyweights as Ira Gershwin and Rosemary Clooney in his youth. Hes spent decades performing and preserving the classics. There will be a reception with hors doeuvres at 6:30 p.m. before the concert begins at 7:45 p.m.
