Fisher Island Crooner

Fisher Island is Miami’s mansion-on-the-top-of-the-hill. You can see it from a distance, but most of us will never get close enough to observe those who live there — and that’s a good thing. Who wants to keep battling traffic on I-95 when you know the type of luxurious life that awaits just a short ferry ride away? But if you’re in the mood for some self flagellation and love to listen to American standards, you won’t mind dropping a couple hundred bucks for “An Intimate Evening with Michael Feinstein” at Vanderbilt Mansion on Fisher Island this Monday. Yeah, that’s right. They have concerts on Mondays on the richest island in the country. It’s for a good cause — to benefit Legal Services of Greater Miami — but that’s not the point, or at least it’s only part of the point. The concert is really a chance for mainlanders to legally interlope on the isle of Oprah and Julia Roberts and rub elbows with people who can buy and sell our lives with a phone call. Feinstein is a multi-platinum selling and five-time Grammy-nominated pianist and singer who befriended such musical heavyweights as Ira Gershwin and Rosemary Clooney in his youth. He’s spent decades performing and preserving the classics. There will be a reception with hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. before the concert begins at 7:45 p.m.
