The director and cofounder of Design Miami/, Ambra Medda, has announced she'll depart the organization in June, with a new director announced shortly thereafter. Medda launched Design Miami/ five years ago at the young age of 23. The fair, that runs during Art Basel week, has become one of the most respected new fairs in the nation and has since sprung a sister fair, Design Miami/Basel, in Switzerland.
The announcement has caught the art and design world off-guard. Artnet reports only that she bought an apartment in the hipster enclave of Williamsburgh in Brooklyn and plans to make New York her new base. But Dezeen reports she will remain a creative consultant and serve on selection committees.
