Casa de Hamburger

When it comes to Neil Hamburger, the maudlin, sloppy, and nasal stand-up comic known in all 50 states as “America’s Funnyman,” humor is in the eye of the beholder. Most comedians are trying to be funny. Or funniness, sometimes referred to as “the funny,” is at least the teleological end point, if not the explicit motivation. But Mr. Hamburger (AKA musician and performance artist Greg Turkington) can’t be concerned with stale rehashings of the same old (allegedly) wry social commentary, props, puns, and so on. Instead, the cult Internet sensation, Tom Green cohort, Tenacious D tag-along, and Drag City recording artist forges funny from a comedic toolbox that combines the gallows with a public restroom and adds a desperate obsession with pop culture to ground the proceedings in contemporary crudity. There is no better host for Señor Hamburguesa than Miami’s premier indie/alt-comedy showcase, Casa de Haha.
