Breast Friends

Even if your idea of physical exertion is a thumb workout from texting, you should consider strapping on some sneakers for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. After all, what’s more worthwhile than saving tatas? Participants get gussied up in pink and join like-minded Miamians at Bayfront Park (301 N. Biscayne Blvd., Miami) for the 5K walk and run or the one-mile fun walk. Participants raise money for Komen, the largest breast cancer organization in the nation. All proceeds go toward breast health research, diagnostics, screening, treatment, services, and education for local lower-income women — as well as to fund research to find a cure. Survivors get a special spot in the affair. They’re honored with a pre-run processional and ceremony, breakfast, and a goody bag. Whether you’re a participant or a cheerleader on the sidelines, these women deserve your support.
