In America, youngsters grow up on the heavy beats of hip-hop, and the music culturally influences fashion and dance. In India, the big sound is bhangra, and the infectious rhythms and lively dancing have a rabid following worldwide. Bhangra beats have emerged from the Punjab region to become the soundtrack of India, adding infectious ethnic cred to hardcore British house and techno music, while lending spice to rap and ragga hits. But bhangra must be witnessed to be understood. At South Beach Bhangra — an event in which ten national dance teams will compete for dancerly supremacy — we dare you to not tap your feet. Special guest stars Amarijt Sandhu and the experimental JoSH will also take the stage (and hopefully perform their remixes of Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous" and "Maneater").
