Always the Champion

Director and producer Rudi Dolezal’s list of film credits reads like a who’s who of the music world. He has filmed Sting in Brazil, directed segments of the original Live Aid, produced more than a thousand music videos, and filmed concerts and documentaries about everyone from Miles Davis to David Bowie to the Rolling Stones. The acclaimed Austrian is now moving to the 305, and plans to split his year evenly between his European homeland and our subtropical party mecca. To herald his arrival, popular nightspot The Fifth will host a special screening of his 2002 documentary, Freddie Mercury: The Untold Story.

Dolezal’s doc strips away the spotlight and glitter that surrounded the frontman of Queen, and traces his childhood from aspiring fashion designer to self-created showman. While Mercury adored the limelight, he also maintained a deeply private life -- the doors of which were blown off by his tragic death from an AIDS-related illness. Tonight at 10:00, witness a side of this superstar you’ve probably never seen before. Call 305-538-9898, or visit
