Afro Beat It Up

The dance music scene is overrun with DJs ready to slam the floor and take no prisoners. But sometimes you want to simply relax, groove, and get into the party spirit with some cool beats. That’s where someone like Rich Medinas comes in. For more than a decade, the New Jersey-bred cool-guy has entertained hip music fans around the country with his soulful blends of hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, funk, and just about anything with a dope beat. He’s worked on parties with music icons Q-Tip and Andrew W. K., and you can spend a few hours experiencing the Medinas style for yourself Saturday at downtown favorite the Vagabond (30 NE 14th St., Miami). It’s gonna be one hell of a sexy affair, with special hosts Bamby’s Notorious Sex Kittens & Naughty Misfits. Medinas will get some musical backup from resident DJs Brad Strickland, Ray Milian, Ryan Evans, and others.
