Local food maven Linda Gassenheimers new book The Flavors of the Florida Keys contains recipes for fish and Key lime cookies pulled from waterfront shacks and chichi dining rooms in the Keys. She got her start penning Dinner in Minutes, a column at the Miami Herald, and quickly became a go-to gal for recipes and food advice. Gassenheimer parlayed that popularity into a weekly show on WLRN-FM (91.3), Food News and Views; numerous guest appearances on TV and radio; and ten cookbooks. On Thursday, attend a special reception and food tasting at Books & Books that starts at 7 p.m. The preview reception will include samples from some of the recipes in the book, prepared by none other than Chef Allen Susser. And because a book reception without alcohol is like going to the library, there will also be some Keys sangria on hand. Tickets to the reception cost $20, but for $40 youll also get a signed copy of The Flavors of the Florida Keys.
