Tony Bosch and Biogenesis: MLB Steroid Scandal

This past January, Miami New Times reported that Biogenesis, a Miami clinic run by Anthony Bosch, a longtime hustler with a fake medical degree, had likely provided banned substances to some of Major League Baseball's biggest names. Among them: the New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, the Milwaukee Brewers' Ryan Braun, and the Washington Nationals' Gio Gonzalez.

The story was backed up by hundreds of pages of original documents from the clinic, which is located near the University of Miami. It became the talk of the baseball world and was followed by ESPN, the New York Times, and virtually all national sports media.

On July 22, Braun, the former NL MVP and University of Miami star, accepted a 65-game ban for his ties to the clinic and apologized to fans. On August 5, a dozen other players connected to Biogenesis accepted 50-game bans, and Rodriguez was hit with an unprecedented 211-game ban, which he immediately appealed.

All in all, the scandal has resulted in the biggest round of mass suspensions for performance-enhancing drug use in baseball history.

To me, Biogenesis sounds like what they were doing to people on that island in "Die Another Day."

This Biogenesis stuff is hilarious. It is totally like gangster, mafia-type shenanigans. Yet, MLB is going to take these records as gospel.

The latest installment of the Miami New Times' reporting about the Biogenesis clinic reads like a Carl Hiaasen novel, w/o the humor.

Just we're clear: MLB thinks being associated with Tony Bosch is literally 10 times worse than throwing at 2 guys' heads in a game.

It was pretty smart of Dwyane Wade to put some distance between biogenesis & himself before having that game
