By "sworn enemies" do you include the anti-Communist Uighurs at Gitmo, who the Bush Administration determined were no threat to us? By no stretch of the imagination are they enemies to our great nation (...although no doubt some of the other prisoners are...).

I sincerely doubt that all these amenities such as a library.. and art classes were offered to the inmates. They are routinley tortured on a daily basis, i know as i work with released detainees and have accounts of their stories. A good cover up story by america, yet again.

Caption presents the statement as fact. Khadr is charged with a crime. He has not been convicted. "Alleged" should be in there somewhere. What isn't in question, is that Khadr was shot twice in the back, and was tortured with an open chest wound.

There's no question that he's a mixed up kid. He's from a radical family who filled his head with garbage and steered him in the wrong direction. His father was clearly a sociopath.

But he was 15 when this happened. He wouldn't even be tried in an adult court in the U.S. if he'd robbed a 7-11 and killed everyone in the store.

He's been in jail for 8 years, held in an offshore location, tortured, denied counsel, subjected to Kangaroo Court proceedings with rules that change weekly.

Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people and injured over 800. But he was an American, so he got a fair trial, and the process was observed.

Khadr may have killed one person, and injured another. But he's not an American, so he has no rights.

Don't you get it? You can't treat people in the rest of the world like they are garbage and have no rights. That's why they hate you. They don't hate you "because you are free"

You have to work pretty hard to start pissing off Canadians. We're a pretty laid back bunch of folks.
You can't even treat Canadian citizens decently. Khadr is a Canadian citizen. Imagine how the rest of the world feels.

I'm no great lover of extremists, or for that matter America doing its Imperialist thing but don't I vaguely remember videos of us citizens being beheaded, how would you rate that against waterboarding.

I think you should be more concerned about where these enemies will be moving to. Hopefully not the jail in Kendall where they kept Noriega! Do we really want these animals in our country? It's funny how the human rights organizations want to help the same people who can care less about human rights. Can you believe we are cutting education programs in our schools but we can afford to pay for art classes for these animals? I say we keep the jail open and make them do hard hard hard labor until the last man leaves Afghanistan!

I've just looked at the photo of the prayer run and Mecca arrow in the Gitmo cell.
What at first looks like a humane gesture of accommodation ultimately strikes me as a contrived effort to humiliate devote detainees.
Prayer rugs are traditionally placed on the floor. You do not have to climb on top a metal table to pray.
Sure there's an arrow on the floor pointed toward Mecca but why wasn't the metal table aligned to face Mecca. It would have been easy to do.
Instead, the table is bolted into the cement floor so that the arrow is 15 degrees askew.
The message seems to be: You are in our world now and you don't fit in. You are out of alignment with our reality. If you want to exercise your faith, go ahead and climb on the table, arrange yourself at an odd angle to the symmetry of the prayer rug and bow your heart out. And we'll all laugh at you as you do so.

So Camp X-Ray has been closed since 2002 but the news media routinely only shows pics of this even today when the place is in the news. No bias there, eh ?

It's also worth noting that the Bush administration tried to repatriate dozens of these detainees but no other country would take them as Obama is now finding out for himself.

Maybe some of these countries want Gitmo to stay open so they have a stick with which to beat the US, much like other Arab countries doing nothing to help resolve Gaza and Palestinian refugee camps (which they could have decades ago).
