On August 24, 1992, Hurricane Andrew hit Miami-Dade as a Category 5 storm. It was the costliest natural disaster to hit the United States, at $26.5 billion, surpassed only by hurricanes Katrina in 2005 and Ike in 2008. Even 20 years later, the scars and memories of Andrew remain with those who lived through it. Images courtesy of NOAA, Florida Memory, and HistoryMiami.
