At 2 p.m. today, history will be made as a ribbon will be cut, signifying the opening of the first working brewery and taproom in the city of Miami, and the beginning of the Magic City's ascension to the next big beer town.
South Florida is already well on the way to beer nirvana, with Miami Brewing Company in Homestead, Due South in Boynton Beach, and Funky Buddha in Oakland Park already in full swing, but Wynwood marks the start of what looks to be a major trend of breweries and taprooms operating in our own backyard.
Wynwood Brewing Company's taproom officially opens to the public tomorrow at 5 p.m., but here's a tip for Short Order readers: Tonight is friends and family night, and Short Order readers are considered friends -- or family.
So after the politicians and bigwigs leave after the official opening ceremony, the taproom will quietly open this evening at 5 p.m., offering a select few a first taste of Wynwood Brewing Company's IPAs, porters, and beers.
If you're the kind of person who absolutely needs to be the first person to tweet about a new place -- or you're a beer geek, or you're just looking for the absolute coolest way to end the work week (unless you have plans to test-drive a Ferrari or play with live monkeys) -- this offer has your name written all over it.
Pints start at $5, and beer flights are available at four brews for $6, five brews for $7, and six brews for $8.
Here's a profile of all the beers available this weekend:
Made with a blend of roasted malts, this rich, dark beer has a roasty aroma with hints of chocolate. Look for a toffee, caramel flavor with a smooth, dry finish. Pop's Porter pairs well with smoked or grilled food or a nice cigar. (6.2% ABV)
This blonde has been specifically brewed for Miami's sultry weather. It has a crisp bitterness, with a slightly bready and sweet flavor. La Rubia pairs well with salads, seafood, and chicken. (5% ABV)
This signature IPA has a citrusy hops aroma and bitterness, balanced with caramel sweetness. The ale is dry-hopped, meaning more hops are added into the tank for added aroma. Wynwood IPA pairs well with a burger, sharp cheese, and spicy foods. (7.2% ABV)
A pale ale brewed with fresh Cascade hops. (4.5% ABV)
Imperial Marzen dry-hopped with fresh Citra. (7.5% ABV)
Taproom hours for this weekend are:
Friday, October 11, 5 to 11 p.m.
Saturday, October 12, 5 p.m. to midnight
Sunday, October 13, 2 to 7 p.m.
Monday, October 14, 5 to 10 p.m.
