Where To Take Dad This Father's Day
Treat dad to dinner at Bourbon Steak
Father's Day is this Sunday, so you better start making plans if you want to take dad out to eat. Here are five ideas of where to celebrate this June 19. (All prices exclude tax and gratuity.)
Barbecue at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
Skip the restaurant and treat dad to a Texas-style barbecue brunch at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. For $35 per person, enjoy a menu of breakfast classics such as French toast with grits, cinnamon sticky buns and eggs Benedict. Plus more meaty items including slow-cooked brisket and pork ribs, chicken wings and catfish. Brunch will be served between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Children 5 to 12 pay half price. Call 305-256-8399 to reserve.
While not exclusively a Father's Day promotion, Bourbon Steak's summer family style dinner is a perfect way to impress dad. The three-course menu changes every few days and includes an appetizer, an entree with two sides and dessert. On a recent visit, the meal started with soft-shell crab served over a spicy grilled corn and tomato salad; kurobata pork chop with mustard butter; and blueberry shortcake and gelato to end. The menu is offered seven days a week and costs $49 per person. For reservations, call 786-279-6600.
All-You-Can-Drink Beer at The National Hotel
Make the National Hotel's regular brunch menu special by ordering the all-he-can-drink beer bar for dad. An extra $10 gets him (only Dads can enjoy the beer bar) all the beer he desires; we have a feeling he'll like that more than the food itself. Brunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and costs $39 per adult and $19.50 per child. Call 305-532-2311 to reserve.
Poolside Lunch at the Fontainebleau
If you really want to splurge, treat your father to a day by the Fontainebleau Hotel's beautiful pool. For $500, you get a poolside cabana equipped with a 32-inch flat-screen TV and wireless Internet, plus a bucket of beer and lunch for four. Think of it as a staycation for you and the family. Call 1-800-548-8886 for more information.
Brunch at Burger & Beer Joint
Let's face it: many fathers would be perfectly content with a big, juicy burger and a beer rather than a full buffet of brunch items. If that's your dad, take him to Burger & Beer Joint for a laid-back meal. Aside from great burgers, Burger & Beer serves a hearty brunch featuring dishes such as "After Midnight" Belgian beer waffles and eggs with bacon, home fries and Texas toast. Add a pitcher of bloody mary for $15. For reservations, call 305-672-3287 (South Beach); 305-523-2244 (Brickell).
