Chef Nicola Carro's rigatoni with eggplant, basil and aged ricotta was voted the best dish of the evening in last night's Italian Cooking Show - a cooking/demo of dishes showcasing the regional cuisine of Italy organized by the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce.

Carro of Quattro Gastronomia Italiana was representing Sicily while Davide Piana of Caffe Milano represented Lombardy. The chefs took turns preparing each of their three dishes and showing an increasingly loud audience how to make them at home. The audience tasted each dish accompanied by prosecco and then voted for their favorite dish of the evening.

Carro's rigatoni and the cuisine of Sicily took most of the votes with Piana's dessert, an amaretto crema with mixed berries, coming in second.

Check back for a recipe of the winning dish and save the date for the next demo on July 15 at Mia Cucina in Coral Gables. For now, here are some pictures.
