No announcement from Schwartz was made regarding a pub, however a trademark for a Michael's Genuine Pub was filed by the parent company, the Genuine Hospitality Group, last July with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and published for opposition on January 28.
When this happens, it's to give anyone a chance for up to 30 days to oppose or file an extension to oppose the trademark if it has already been taken. After one month, the trademark is usually approved.
When contacted, neither Schwartz nor anyone from the company wanted to provide any details about Michael's Genuine Pub. However, information in the filing under goods and services says "beer, ale and lager." The logo also states "Est. 2014" meaning it was established this year. The logo is similar to the logo on Michael's Genuine Home Brew.
Aside from his restaurant ventures, Schwartz dabbles in the craft brewing industry as well, having concocted a recipe for his American ale made with organic Florida-grown sugar cane and Semi-Chi (Seminole Chief) rice grown in Palm Beach county. The beer is not brewed in Florida, but produced under contract-by his friends at the Back Forty Beer Company in Gadsden, Alabama.
The beer can be found in at least two states: at the Hot and Hot Fish Club in Birmingham, AL and throughout South Florida in several locations such as Total Wine and More. Michael's Genuine Home Brew is distributed by Brown Distributing Company and comes in 22-ounce single bottles or four-packs of 12-ounce bottles.
