Miami's Best Fourth of July Cocktails (Recipes)

Happy 239th birthday, America. Fourth of July is a day to celebrate our fascinating, wonderful, sometimes frustrating country that's always been a beacon of hope and light for most of the world. The way we celebrate Independence Day is as varied as the people who live here. Some choose to spend he day at the beach or having a backyard cookout, while others opt for dinner at a restaurant. Still others plan on gathering in town squares and parks to watch fireworks.  

Whatever your plans, here are some of Miami's most patriotic cocktails.Enjoy them at out or make them at your Fourth of July celebration at home.

The Colada Americano

Colada Americano (Available at La Mar by Gaston Acurio)

  • 2oz Bacardi Select
  • 2oz fresh pineapple puree
  • 1oz homemade vanilla syrup
  • 3/4 oz.lime juice
  • 1oz coconut milk
  • 1 dash  bitters
  • Raspberry syrup

Combine all but the raspberry syrup in blender with ice. Blend until desired consistency. Pour into glass and finish with raspberry syrup.

Stars, Stripes and Whiskey (Available at Cleo; Normally $15, but $8 on the Fourth of July)

  • 5 mint leaves
  • 1 1/2 oz. Makers Mark
  • 3/4 oz. yuzu juice.
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup
  • 1/4 oz. agave nectar
  • 1/4 oz. Cointreau

Muddle mint leaves and combine all in iced shaker. Shake and serve up in a Martini glass with a 1/2 sugar rim, garnish with 1 lemon slice.

  • 1 scoop lemon ice cream
  • 2 oz. raspberry vodka
  • 1/2 oz. simple syrup
  • Fresh mint

In a mixing glass muddle fresh mint. Add one scoop of lemon ice cream, vodka, and syrup. Shake and strain into a martini glass Garnish with fresh berries.

Afrodite (Available at Repour; $12)

  • 2 oz. Afrohead rum
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • 1 1/2 oz watermelon puree
  • 3-4 basil leaves

Shake and strain all ingredients into chilled martini glass. Garnish with spanked basil leaf.

The Regent Punch

Regent Punch (available at Regent Cocktail Club; $14 for a single serving)

  • ½ oz arrack 
  • ½ oz cognac 
  • ½ oz Jamaican rum
  • ½ oz Curacao 
  • ¾ oz fresh lemon juice 
  • ¾ oz orange simple 
  • ¾ oz green tea 
  • Top with champagne 

Build drink in a long glass and stir, add ice cube, top with champagne, garnish with orange slice and lemon slice.

Touche Twist (available at Touche; $15)

  • 2 oz Maker's Mark
  • 1/2 oz agave
  • 1/2 oz Campari
  • Muddled blackberries

Combine ingredients with ice in shaker. Shake and strain. Garnish with blackberry in a rocks glass
