Happy Friday. The weather is chill, and so is our city. If you're complaining about having to wear a sweater, just remind yourself it's below zero in the Midwest.
Weekend festivities include strolling Ocean Drive with a cocktail in hand and admiring the ice-cream colors of our famous art deco buildings, checking out a new restaurant, and taking part in Burger Beast's Burgie Awards. You can also hop down to the Keys or find the job of your dreams.
The weekend starts now!
Art Deco Weekend
January 15 through 17, Miami Beach's Ocean Drive celebrates its famous art deco architecture with historical walking tours, music, a parade, and a midnight cinema. In addition, many of the restaurants on Ocean Drive set up tables along the street, which is closed to vehicular traffic. Art Deco Weekend is free and open Friday, January 15, from noon to 11 p.m.; Saturday, January 16, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, January 17, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Ariete, the much-anticipated Coconut Grove restaurant by Michael Beltran and Jason Odio, opens today, January 15, for dinner at the former La Bottega Enoteca space at 3540 Main Hwy. Chef/partner Beltran has worked in some of the best kitchens in Miami, including Norman Van Aken's Norman's 180 and Tuyo, as well as the Cypress Room under Michael Schwartz and Roel Alcudia, so it's a safe bet that Beltran's cuisine will be satisfying and soulful. The restaurant's menu includes foie gras with sour-orange vinegar, temptation caramel, ember-roasted plantains, and cocoa nibs ($22/$36); local fish
