Hold on to your liver, matey.
Over the years, the festival has grown from a poolside fete to a multiday event that features mixology competitions, formal rum judging by a panel of experts, seminars, a lifestyle marketplace (because you need a set of tiki glasses and a puffy pirate shirt), and a mega rum-tasting experience.
And by mega, we're talking more than 80 rum producers from as near as Miami and as far as the Philippines.
With all this growth, however, the festival is still a family affair, which is probably why the event still feels like an intimate gathering with friends to drink some good rum -- ya know, if your friends happened to have 200 rums on hand for you to try.
Tickets for the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival cost $50 per day for general admission, which includes entry to the Grand Rum Tasting from 4 to 7 p.m.
VIP tickets cost $75 per day and include early admission to the Grand Rum Tasting at noon. A three-day VIP pass costs $150 and also allows access to the special Friday trade day. Purchase tickets in advance at rumrenaissance.com.
Advance VIP ticketholders can attend any (or all) of the special Miami Cocktail Week parties by RSVPing to firstname.lastname@example.org. The schedule of rum-soaked fetes includes:
Monday, April 21, at the Broken Shaker
Rum cocktail pop-up bar with eclectic cocktails from Caña Rum Bar in Los Angeles from 9 to 11 p.m.
Tuesday, April 22, at Mai Kai
Original Tiki cocktails in the Molokai Bar, starting at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, April 23, at Bacardi Penthouse in Coral Gables
Classic Bacardi Cocktails VIP Party featuring libations from the first family of rum from 8 to 10 p.m.
Thursday, April 24, at Gramps
Cocktails that celebrate the spirit of Louisiana from Bayou Rum from 8 to 10 p.m.
Friday, April 25, at The Corner
An evening of aged rum cocktails from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
Saturday, April 26,
Miami Beach cocktail tour visiting the Regent Cocktail Club, Drogerie, and Lure Fishbar.
Begins at Regent Cocktail Club in the Gale Hotel at 9 p.m.
Sunday, April 27, at the Broken Shaker
Miami Rum Renaissance Festival closing party with cocktails by DonQ Puerto Rican Rum, beginning at 8 p.m.
That's a fair deal for a lot of rum and fun. But Short Order has free tickets for you. We have four pairs of VIP tickets to give away -- that's two pairs for Saturday and two pairs for Sunday (a $150 value per pair).
Want to win? Simply tell us how you like your rum. Do you like to sip a fine, aged dark rum, with maybe a squeeze of lime? Maybe you're the kind of person who likes to chill poolside with a piña colada. Or do you prefer your cocktails fruity and strong, served inside a tiki god?
Just comment on this post to win. Be sure to include a valid Twitter handle or email address so we can contact you (if we can't get in touch, we can't get you the tickets if you win) and note whether you'd like tickets for Saturday or Sunday.
We'll choose the winners and announce the lucky rum-runners Tuesday, April 21.
Updated: We have winners. Congrats to Anulady and @javione, who each won a pair of VIP tickets for Saturday; and to @bombita74 and @queendee93, who each won a pair of VIP tickets for Sunday. We'll be in touch shortly.
