Discount grocer Aldi is opening a North Miami Beach location. This will be the 27th South Florida location for the brand, ranked by Market Force as one of America's favorite grocery stores for its no-frills shopping experience and value-priced items. The chain was ranked fifth in overall customer loyalty and the leader in price by the survey company in an April 2016 study

The new store, located at 735 NE 167th St., opens Thursday, May 26 — just in time to stock up on Memorial Day cookout supplies.

Pampered American shoppers, used to winetastings at Whole Foods and free cookies at Publix, may be taken aback at first by Aldi, but frugal shoppers overlook renting a cart for a quarter (refundable when you return the cart to its proper place instead of leaving it in the parking lot) or brining and packing their own bags to save money. The store, modeled after German grocers, generally has a smaller footprint than your average supermarket, with Aldi carrying about 1,400 items compared to about 30,000 at your local big-box store.

In exchange, shoppers save big bucks on all the food items they need — albeit without the stress of having to choose from an entire aisle of potato chips. Aldi carries all the staples required for dinner — including a good variety of both conventional and organic produce, beer, and snacks.

Although still considered a no-frills approach to food shopping, Aldi's new North Miami Beach location has made some vast improvements regarding shopper convenience, including natural lighting, an expanded cooler section, and a line of healthier, premium products such as organic produce, USDA Choice beef, gluten-free items, and the brand's SimplyNature line of products that are free of certified synthetic colors, partially hydrogenated oils, and added MSG.

In addition, Aldi now accepts credit cards, something it didn't do in the past, and offers a double guarantee where customers will get both a refund and a replacement item if they're not happy with the quality of their food.

Chris Hewitt, Royal Palm Beach division vice president for Aldi, is looking forward to opening the new location. “We are committed to bringing Aldi customers the highest-quality products at the lowest possible prices in a simple and easy-to-navigate shopping environment.”

To celebrate the opening of the North Miami Beach store, Aldi will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, May 26. The public is invited to attend. Following the ceremony, the first 100 shoppers will receive a golden ticket, each containing Aldi gift certificates of various amounts. Customers can also tour the store, sample Aldi products, and enter a sweepstakes to win free produce for a year.

Aldi North Miami Beach will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
