66. Carne Asada Fajitas at Cinco Cantina & Tequila Bar
The festive Cinco Cantina, in the Village of Merrick Park, is better known for its' brain-freeze margaritas than for authentic Mexican fare. Yet the carne asada fajitas here are the best thing on the menu, and a damn tasty rendition by any standard.
The tender skirt steak is marinated with guajillo peppers before getting grilled and served searing hot and a succulent medium-rare (unless, of course, you request it otherwise). Accompaniments are the customary rice, beans, guacamole, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream and sauteed peppers and onions, all sizzling on a sizzle platter. Warm flour tortillas are served covered, on the side. It's a big, rewarding $20 plate of food. Feel free to enjoy a frozen margarita beforehand.
