  • Saturday Night: MSTRKRFT at Heathrow Lounge

MSTRKRFT with Pauly Crush and Jessica Who?Saturday, December 6, 2008Heathrow Lounge, Miami BeachBetter Than: Ninety percent of the other Basel parties during the week.Art Basel brought plenty of musical performances during the week. Unfortunately, most of them were invite-only or secret parties no one knew about. But Saturday night, Heathrow Lounge had a come-one, come-all party (as long as you paid the $25 cover charge) with Canadian electro-house duo MSTRKRFT. They aren't exactly strangers to

  • WMC's The List is Up

If there is one guide to Winter Music Conference (other than our own, of course), it's definitely The List. It's the official guide to everything WMC, and while it's obviously still incomplete, there are a lot of interesting events already listed. Most of the list so far compromises the downtown clubs, but definitely provides some insight on what can we expect. Biggest shocker: After years at the now-defunct Pawn Shop Lounge, Sunday School for Degenerates is moving to Ice Palace Studios. You can c

  • Mad Decent, Turntable Lab and IHEARTCOMIX to Take Over O.H.W.O.W. For WMC

Diplo returns to Miami for WMC.Just got word that Our House West of Wynwood will be hosting a party during Winter Music Conference. The Allapattah gallery hasn't been open for long, but it's quickly becoming a favorite. It's already hosted numerous parties, include a string of them during Art Basel that we're easily some of my favorite during the week, so why wouldn't they take WMC as an opportunity to have another one?In fact, O.H.W.O.W. will be hosting a 12-hour marathon (from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • Former Circa 28, Electric Pickle, Opens Tonight

The Adventures of the Electric Pickle start tonight. When Circa 28 suddenly shut down last year, it came as a shock to many. Well its back, er, sort of. We reported about the Electric Pickle taking over the space back February, and just in time for Winter Music Conference, the place is ready for the public. Good thing too, because they have a pretty packed WMC schedule. You can swing by Electric Pickle tonight, starting at 9 p.m. There will be live performances by ArtOfficial and The Jesse Jackso

  • WMC Preview: Q&A with Carles of HipsterRunoff.com

Carles, is that you? When we heard that the "blog worth blogging about" Hipster Runoff was hosting a party during Winter Music Conference, we admittedly thought WTF. Not because it's a bad thing, but because this means we might be able to meet the man (or woman, we aren't sure) behind the site. He goes by the name Carles (or CRLS, because vowels aren't alt), but we don't know much more about him except for what our sister paper, the Village Voice, was about to get out of him when it interviewed h

  • WMC 2009: Is SXSW Cannabilizing WMC?

Kyle MunzenriederKid Sister at Don't Mess with Texas during SXSW.Before heading off to see Wavves (for the third time in 36 hours, as it turned out) an No Age (for the second time in 24), one of the last shows I saw at last week's SXSW was Kid Sister at the Don't Mess with Texas fest. Flanked by DJ duo Flosstradamus, the trio admitted that their voices were on its last legs after a week of partying and playing countless show, literally, giving credence to the meme that Winter Music Conference is

Ian MeyerIf you missed Fool's Gold co-founder, Nick Catchdubs, during Winter Music Conference, don't make the same mistake twice. Not going to rehash too much on why Catchdubs holds a special place amongst many blog-house (electro-house/nu-rave/whathaveyou) fans, except that he is genius when in control of the decks.Contributor John Hood did a Q&A with him prior to WMC -- as well as a preview in our guide -- in which he talks about the balance of running a label and being a DJ. • South Florida's Uffie Re-releases "Pop the Glock" with Video, Full LP in 2010

Despite having grown up in South Florida, Uffie hasn't actually step foot in our swampy parts since 2006 when she made an appearance during Winter Music Conference. Still, South Florida's influence on her style of music in undeniable. Hints of Miami booty bass, freestyle and crunk are all there mashed up with electro beats. 2 Live Crew and L'Trimm are just as big of a influence as Daft Punk and Peaches.Uffie's success was almost instantaneous when she dropped her single "Pop the Glock" back in 2

  • Ultra 2010 Early-Bird Tickets on Sale Today at Noon -- Seriously

I have a personal pledge not to think about Winter Music Conference until, shit, at least Art Basel Miami Beach, and, ideally New Year's are both over. Starting at noon today, you can buy a two-day festival pass for $99.95.No, there isn't a shred of line-up released yet, just the two dates: March 26 and
