  • Initial Lineup Announced for Langerado 2009: Snoop Dogg, Chromeo, Bad Brains, Public Enemy, Cafe Tacuba, and More

After much Internet gossip and rumor-mongering, the folks behind Langerado announced they would release the first phase of the festival's 2009 lineup yesterday morning. That didn't happen, with a delay as organizers "finalized last-minute details." Still, this morning they've come forward with a few names, several of which will be appearing at the festival for the first time. The lineup announcement comes after the jump. -- Arielle Castillo

  • Local Album Review: Psycho Daisies - Return From Blood Island

The new release from Miami psych/blues outfit the Psycho Daisies, Return from Blood Island, is a wash of feedback, distorted growls, bumps, grunts, reverb, and haunting vocals, courtesy of Johnny Salton and company.  Salton's roots are embedded in Miami musical history, from power-pop group the Reactions, through his extensive work with Charlie Pickett and co., to his current ongoing, multi-decade project.  Salton has been long identified as a true guitar genius; this album serves

  • Girl Talk's and Deerhunter's Langerado Show Moved to Culture Room, Sunday, Mar. 8

Now that Langerado's cancelled, expect many of the bands to announce smaller shows throughout South Florida. Word is, booking agents started calling local promoters a few days before the official cancellation announcement. While we'll sadly still miss out, say, on the Pogues and other headliners, keep your fingers crossed for many of the smaller acts who could safely play places like ... oh, Churchill's? The Vagabond? Just a couple of wild guesses. Here's something that's not a wild guess: Girl T

  • The Pogues Langerado Show moved to Pompano Beach Amphitheater

via forgottenjournal.comAnother of Langerado's casualties has found a new home. Irish supergroup The Pogues brushed off Langerado's cancellation by announcing they'll be holding their own show on Saturday, March 7th at 8:30 pm. Better yet, Shane MacGowan and crew have announced this will be the first show of their North American tour and the only time they'll appear in Florida. Shake off your Langerado blues and celebrate St. Patrick's day a little early at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater at 180

  • More Langerado Rescheduling: Ozomatli at Culture Room, Mar. 7

via www.ozomatli.comFinishing up what looks to be, perhaps, the last of the Langerado rescheduling announcements, Ozomatli will now appear at Culture Room on Saturday, March 7. Unlike Sunday's indie-fave head-to-head-to-head showdown of Deerhunter Girl Talk vs. Modest Mouse vs. Tokyo Police Club, Ozomatli's competition on Saturday isn't too bad. The main other show that night is the Pogues, who boast a significantly different audience.Tickets go on sale this Friday, and cost $19.99 in adva

  • Q&A With Terry Woods of the Pogues, at Pompano Beach Amphitheatre This Saturday

Nine years ago (well, and before), nobody expected the original Irish punk rockers, the Pogues, to resurface together. Fans had followed the band's slow dissolution across the late 1980s and early 1990s, parallel with the personal struggles of its mad genius frontman and songwriter, Shane MacGowan. Born in England to Irish parents, MacGowan's immigrant status left him with a permanent outsider's view that eventually led him into the later throes of original British punk. After his first

The PoguesWith Kiss KissPompano Beach AmphitheaterSunday, March 7, 2009Better Than: Having to hear about it after the factThe Review: Saturday night's concert by the Pogues at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre marked the first-ever South Florida appearance by the band, since its inception in 1982. Judging by the audience's gently boozy, ecstatic reaction and the musician's clear enjoyment and easte onstage, they were about 27 years overdue. The beginning of the evening, though, was deceptively stai
