  • The Doobie Brothers to Play the Orange Bowl Halftime Show, Thursday

Ahhh... the sweet sounds of classic Seventies California pop. No one has ever embodied that sound more than the Doobie Brothers. And now that the style the Doobies perfected has become a musical archetype (see modern artists like the Autumn Defense, Beck, and so on), it's all too easy to look back through the lens of nostalgia, rather than give the band the credit it deserves. Looking at the Doobies catalog from a more objective, musical standpoint -- and sober of the pop-culture fetishism we p

  • Beach High Rock Ensemble Rock School Auditorium

Rock and roll will never die. Here's a video of the Miami Beach Senior High School Rock Ensemble playing "Black Water" by The Doobie Brothers at a recently uploaded performance in the high school's auditorium. Good to know that with all the talk about budget cuts and elimination of arts programs and this and that and that type of stuff that at least somewhere in Dade the youth are being encouraged to rock out.Does this type of stuff go on all over the county? Leave a comment if you know.

  • Five Days Left for Wannee Music Festival Early Bird Tickets

Still bummed out about Langerado's cancellation? If you are, you might not be interested in Wannee Music Festival. Wannee is what Langerado was: a haven for jam bands, not the over-eclectic festival it was becoming. The two-day festival is being held in Live Oak, Florida, on June 5 and 6, featuring acts like The Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule, The Doobie Brothers, Toots and the Maytals, The Wailers (performing the Exodus album in full), and Keller Williams.Tickets are $139 until April 20 and t

The Miami Beach RivieraThe Fontainebleau's heralded Hakkasan opening perhaps overhadowed another of the hotel's newly debuted eateries, La Côte. Inspired by the Côte d'Azur (as opposed to the Côte d'Jersey), this seaside beach club and restaurant (with open-air second level) offers guests "the flavorful cuisine of the French Riviera" -- plus a DJ inspired bar scene with cocktails and tapas-style snacks, and a Rosé wine bar developed by master mixologist MIchael MacDonell (didn't he used to b
