  • No One Is Lining Up For FPL's Proposed Power Lines

FPL is looking to add new tracts of power lines somewhere in South Miami. One route cuts through the old Florida East Coast Railroad property, which runs along South Miami Elementary and Middle School. As The Herald has noted, local homeowners are concerned about potential health hazards. Another candidate route is along US1. So you can't turn around without someone shoving a bloody hunk of designer beef in your face. But you can turn around and see we really could use some better Thai restaurants.Could the new Atchana's East West Kitchen in Coco Grove's Mutiny Hotel be one? Well, it's got a good enough pedigree. Proprietors Atchana and Steve Capellini also run the well-regarded if "ugly green" Siam Lotus Room (a former Best Thai restaurant in NT's Best Of poll) in South Miami. Nothing ugly about Atchana's, though

Elyse WanshelThe interior of RA Sushi in South Miami. At RA Sushi (5829 SW 73rd St.), a South Beach-y black sheep nuzzled within the crevices of the laid-back, pub-heavy South Miami bar scene, it really doesn't matter what you like. You can tell your server your booze-buds howl for scotch on the rocks, drool for Manhattans, get frisky with fuzzy navels, or regularly crave freshly drawn virgin's blood. They don't care. Whenever you ask them to suggest a drink, they always serve up this beast:

  • Ain't No Party Like a Horse Meat Party

In Coral Gables, it's wine and cheese. Along Calle Ocho, it's mojitos and arroz con pollo. In SoBe, it's vodka-Red-Bull and air. Deep in the farmlands of South Miami, apparently, they get down with Heineken and horse meat. On July 3, an anonymous tip alerted Miami-Dade cops to this bin sitting along the side of SW 214th Street near 206th Avenue. "It looks like somebody must have been having a party," posits Det. Mario Fernandez, lead investigator of the county's horse-slaughtering phenomen
