  • All-Ages Warehouse Venue, Goo, Opens This Weekend With a Three-Day Fun Festival

Kenneth Fee and company have set the date, time and place for the opening of the new all ages venue Goo. We blogged about this before and now it's starting to gel. • Hardcore God Greg Ginn at Tobacco Road this Thursday night

Those of us familiar with the history of Hardcore Music know that Greg Ginn is not just the man, but a brilliant guitar god. He formed Black Flag in 1977, eventually releasing the band's records (as well as Bad Brains, Minutemen, Descendants, Sonic Youth, and lots more) on his own label SST. Black Flag broke up in 1986, after seriously fucking shit up and Greg went on to do tons of other stuff. So, let us jump to the present. At age 54, he is currently on tour with two bands: The Taylor Texas

  • Best of 2009 Preview: Best Local Album

Best Local AlbumTorche, Meanderthal Hydra Head Recordsmyspace.com/torcheThe underground metal cognoscenti revered the 2005 self-titled debut album by heavy hometown heroes Torche for its melodic take on sludgy sounds. But it was last year's followup, Meanderthal, that won the band a wider audience and even more critical praise. (And even though at the time the album was recorded, half the musicians lived outside of their hometown, we'll still claim 'em.) Torche kept the down-tuned riffage cr

  • Random Album Review: Sonic Youth - The Eternal

When you've spent a quarter century reinventing rock music, altering the landscape not only for yourself, but for pretty much every band to come after, releasing a new album can be a tricky affair. It's not just a matter of increased expectations -- of course everyone expects their musical gods to put out good albums. The much more troubling prospect is the question, where do we go from here?   Sonic Youth started out making music that many people couldn't even recognize as such. Now,

The Review: O-town is famed for being the primary residence of the world's most renowned mouse, and for spewing out annoyingly cutesy boy bands. • Get Your Red, White and Blue on With Huma Rojo

Let's say tomorrow rolls around and you finally manage to tear yourself away from CNN's round-the-clock coverage of all things Michael Jackson to celebrate the birth of our nation and the day Will Smith freed us from alien annihilation. You find yourself on South Beach for some Fourth of July festivities. I know it's a stretch, but work with me here. Now let's say you've spent much of the day on the beach, perhaps sipping suds from your cooler and maybe partaking of the occasional frozen con
