Kurma ChameleonAnokha Restaurant number two has apparently bit the dust. When it first opened a decade ago on Commodore Plaza in Coconut Grove, this was a very good place for Indian food. Over the years it slipped little by little, and then last year moved to Virginia St. We wonder: Was this a case of bad karma or bad kurma?Another Death at The Versace Mansion?Short Order's intrepid undercover reporter, Strep Throat, whispers that Loftin's 1116 Ocean at Casa Casuarina, is falling behind on payin

  • Mother's Day Restaurant Roundup, Part II

via basyke's flickr some random picture I found on the internet on a "mother's day" image searchThis post is dedicated to the time I got arrested on Mother's Day when I was 15. Do not -- I repeat -- do not, get high with your friends on the roof of a parking garage in Coral Gables and throw rocks at the Metrobus, even if it's parked and nobody's in it and you think nobody's watching. It is a bad idea. A very bad idea. Especially because some people work on Mother's Day and they will watch

  • New Randazzo's, Another Pasha's, and The Sports Exchange Open In The Gables -- More to Come

A press release of new arrivals and soon-to-be additions to the Coral Gables dining scene was recently sent out. Of those places mentioned, Norman's 180 (180 Aragon Ave.) is the only one to eagerly await. We don't know much about Charlotte Bistro, which is due to debut at 264 Miracle Mile, but we'll remain hopeful. And we won't complain about Randazzo's Little Italy moving to new digs at 385 Miracle Mile. The rest of the list seems pretty shabby: Fast food: Another new Pasha's has opened at 130

  • Talavera, Indomania, Daniel Boulud, Chocolate and Marijuana

Indomania Will Take August OffPieter Both, proprietor of Indomania Restaurant on Miami Beach, will be taking his annual vacation back home to Amsterdam -- meaning that, as per usual, the restaurant will be closed for the month of August. He also wrote to remind me that ever since I mildly mocked Indomania's abbreviated rijsttafel in my initial review, it has been expanded to grand rijsttafel proportions. I wrote back saying that I would try to check it out soon -- anonymously. This Is What A Deal

  • O Bacalhau is O Ver

Can't blame the owners of O Bacalhau for not trying to break the mold. I mean offering salt cod 16 ways is pretty unique. Alas, the phone number for this Coral Gables Portuguese restaurant, which opened this past January on Ponce de Leon, is no longer in service. Too bad, as I was really curious how this fish would taste grilled, or fried and sauced with madeira wine. O well.

  • Don Chile To Pepper The Gables

The whole enchilada at Don ChileIt's official: Coral Gables is changing its' motto from The City Beautiful to The City Mexican. I think you'll agree the new tag is catchier, and also holds out the promise of a decent meal. Latest Mex eatery set to jump like a bean onto Ponce de Leon is Don Chile, named after chef/owner Donald Chile. Actually, I just wrote that to be funny. The chef/owner's name is Erubiel Gutierrez, from Campeche. Gutierrez graduated from the Iniciacion University with a degree
