  • Wish You Were There: Les Claypool at Pompano Beach Amphitheatre, May 30

Wish You Were There is a new column on Crossfade highlighting pictures and videos from around the web of the weekend's biggest shows. One of the most anticipated gigs in town this past Saturday was the kick-off of bass god Les Claypool's national outing with Matisyahu. The weather at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre smiled upon Claypool, who brought his signature technical dexterity and straight-out weirdness to a set punctuated by creative use of a xylophone.Check out this five-and-a-half minute

  • Three Local Live Nation Venues Say Bye-Bye to Ticketmaster

This past December, Rolling Stone published an interesting industry - centric article detailing the ongoing business battle between ticket-sale monolith Ticketmaster, and live-show monolith Live Nation. Of course, everybody knows that until very, very recently, Ticketmaster was inescapable, even at certain small venues (locally, for instance, even Culture Room uses the company for its advance ticketing). However, even casual music fans probably know about Live Nation's recent "360 deals" wi

via forgottenjournal.comAnother of Langerado's casualties has found a new home. Irish supergroup The Pogues brushed off Langerado's cancellation by announcing they'll be holding their own show on Saturday, March 7th at 8:30 pm. Better yet, Shane MacGowan and crew have announced this will be the first show of their North American tour and the only time they'll appear in Florida. One bag near the 79th Street causeway, and another set that washed ashore at 7899 NE Bayshore Court. Police identified the victim as 21-year-old Osben Laparra. It's Tuesday, so clearly it's time to start looking forward to the weekend. Since Langerado's been canceled, people looking to get their fill of music will have to do a bit more planning and travelling. A few of the bigger bands that were to play Langerado, like the Pogues (March 7th at Pompano Beach Amphitheater), Modest Mouse (March 8th at Revolution Live), Flogging Molly (March 6th at Pompano Beach Amphitheater), Ozomatli (March 7th at the Culture Room), and Girl Talk (March 8th at Cultur

  • Q&A With Terry Woods of the Pogues, at Pompano Beach Amphitheatre This Saturday

Nine years ago (well, and before), nobody expected the original Irish punk rockers, the Pogues, to resurface together. Fans had followed the band's slow dissolution across the late 1980s and early 1990s, parallel with the personal struggles of its mad genius frontman and songwriter, Shane MacGowan. Born in England to Irish parents, MacGowan's immigrant status left him with a permanent outsider's view that eventually led him into the later throes of original British punk. After his first

  • Matisyahu and Les Claypool to Play Pompano Beach Amphitheatre on May 30

The best Hasidic Jewish reggae artist is teaming up with quite possibly the best bass player of the last 20 years to give Pompano Beach a unique night of music. Matisyahu, aka Matthew Miller, could easily be written off as a novelty before you hear his music.  Reggae has always had deep spiritual and religious roots, most often associated with Rastafarianism, so Matisyahu's blending of traditional Jewish teachings isn't far off. Seeing him on stage is off-putting at first, but once the bass

  • Fall Out Boy Show Moved to Pompano Beach Amphitheatre

Nothing adds megawatts of hype to a South Florida appearance by tabloid twink Pete Wentz like a last-minute Boca ban. Initially, he and his fellow Fall Out Boys were planning to publicly flash their musical junk from the stage at Mizner Park. But now, their pop-punk exhibitionism has been relocated to the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre (1806 NE 6th St., Pompano Beach) with the City of Boca Raton stating: "There have been known disturbances associated with one of the bands, Fall Out Boy. • Pompano Beach's Band Number 12 Plays the Vagabond This Friday, August 21

via myspace.com/bandnumber12Pompano Beach-based threesome Band Number 12 is largely an under-the-radar local act for now. But the band boasts a serious appeal that lies in its overall mood, a sort of wistful, drink-dampened nostalgia for relationships that were probably actually never that good in retrospect. It's no surprise then, that the band was born, more or less, in the infamous Poorhouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Vocalist/guitarist John Owens is a bartender there, and the awesomely

photo by Matt MillerConverge, with Jacob Bannon second from rightTo the uninitiated, the Massachusetts quartet Converge can be downright terrifying. And it's not because they appear clad in face paint or leather and chains -- this underground punk-bred foursome would never waste time on costume-like trappings. Rather, part of the reason they are so scary is because they are so physically unassuming, but so loud, and so clearly do not give a fuck. And neither does their crowd, famous for

  • Win a Pair of Tickets to See AFI, and a Meet and Greet With the Band, at Pompano Beach Amphitheater November 18

A.F.I. is playing in South Florida on November 18, at Pompano Beach Amphitheater. Longtime fans of the band are in for a treat, as recent fan reviews show the band's set list has spanned its (long!) career. Also excellent is the opening band, Gallows, probably the best straight-up hardcore act to come out of the U.K. in a long, long time.
