  • Fried, Smoked, Dipped, and Fried Again at the Broward County Fair

StilesIf there's one thing to be said about the traditional county fair, it's that they're perfect testing grounds for new foods; prime places to push the boundaries a bit, largely in pursuit of an answer to the question, "What doesn't taste better fried?" With this in mind, I ventured out to the Broward County Fair on Friday night with our photographer C.

  • Homestead Councilwoman Threatened By Amateur 'N Sync Video on YouTube

Judy WaldmanThe FBI is currently investigating a YouTube video set to the music of 'N Sync's "Bye, Bye, Bye" that apparently infers that Homestead Councilwoman Judy Waldman should either be killed or off herself. The South Florida times broke the story. As of this afternoon the video has been removed. Though the poster of the video, who uses the handle "AtashyDI," still has 10 other videos. Most of them are weird, rambling photo and text montages aimed at various Homestead governm

  • Meatless in Miami: Vegan on the Down-Low

It's a fun fact that Oreos have long been so fake that they are in fact completely free of egg and dairy. A lot of meal ideas are either likewise  vegan or easily made so with the slightest tweak. Some surreptitiously vegan everyday items include guacamole, salsa, portobello burgers, pasta primavera, hummus, veggie sushi rolls, veggie chili, and most dark chocolate.  Here are a few more to start with: Pasta Puttanesca (or "whore sauce" as my hilarious brother calls it): A wonderful,

  • Why Are They Messin' With My Oreos?

Photo by Riki AltmanWhere my Oreos at?Last night, the monster magnet lodged at the end of my shopping cart dragged me, yet again, directly to the cookie aisle. I gazed in awe at the vast selection that lined the shelves, wondering where my favorite cookie jar filler could be found. Panic overrode the incessant drooling when I realized the ugly truth: Oreos have morphed into so many incarnations that I could hardly recognize the original.Isn't it fair to say a brand can only stray so far away
