  • Switch Coming to Heathrow December 13

Chromeo, Crookers, and now Switch? Whoever is responsible for the string of bookings at Heathrow Lounge deserves a gold star because it's getting ridiculous. It almost seems like Heathrow is quickly becoming the Studio A replacement we hoped for -- except it's ill equipped to handle any kind of live performance. Save the date, because Saturday, December 13, Switch takes over the decks at the South Beach nightclub. Switch, also known as Dave Taylor, is the man responsible for producing dancefl

  • MSTRKRFT at Heathrow Art Basel Week

Really? Heathrow, WTF? Where are you getting these bookings? We aren't worthy of your mercy. Let's recap: Chromeo, Crookers, Switch in December, and now we find out, via MiamiNights, that MSTRKRFT is coming? Now, we've personally seen the Canadian duo spin a bajillion times (yes, bajillion is a number), but the reason we keep going to see them is that they get better every time around. The duo hit the decks at Heathrow Lounge Saturday, December 6. Tickets go on sale tonight for $25 at Ticketw

  • Art Basel Week: Prefuse 73 and Eliot Lipp, Dec. 7

Shoring up Heathrow's more dancefloor-friendly offerings is tonight's party, which tends more towards the experimental and heavy. Prefuse 73 was born Guillermo Scott Herren in Miami but grew up in Atlanta; still, he remains popular locally thanks to his releases on labels like Schematic and Warp. With a dizzying discography under a number of monikers, he remains best known for his warped outings that dredge the more leftfield reaches of rock and hip-hop into tweaked IDM. He's also responsible f

  • Interview with Prefuse 73, at Heathrow Lounge on Sunday

If you are into dazzling, disjointed hip-hop beats, then you have probably heard of a whiz kid and producer that goes by the name of Prefuse 73. Born in Miami, but raised in Atlanta, Prefuse 73 (born Scott Herren) also records under various monikers like Savath & Savalas and Delarosa & Asora. Still, he's best known and admired around the world for his flawless work as Prefuse 73. After releasing his debut 2001 album, Vocal Studies Up Rock Narratives, Herren earned the attention and re

  • Saturday Night: MSTRKRFT at Heathrow Lounge

MSTRKRFT with Pauly Crush and Jessica Who?Saturday, December 6, 2008Heathrow Lounge, Miami BeachBetter Than: Ninety percent of the other Basel parties during the week.Art Basel brought plenty of musical performances during the week. Unfortunately, most of them were invite-only or secret parties no one knew about. But Saturday night, Heathrow Lounge had a come-one, come-all party (as long as you paid the $25 cover charge) with Canadian electro-house duo MSTRKRFT. They aren't exactly strangers to

  • Last Night: Prefuse 73, Eliot Lipp and PG 13 at Heathrow Lounge

Prefuse 73 with Eliot Lipp and PG 13Sunday, December 7, 2008Heathrow Lounge, Miami BeachBetter Than: Any of the usual Sunday night mainstream hip-hop club nights. One of the many cool things about Art Basel is all the cool music acts that it brings down to our sandy shores. Case in point, last night the always-eclectic Prefuse 73 was in town--along with label mate Eliot Lip, local star producer PG 13 and other guests DJs. The place for the venue was the (newish) Heathrow Lounge in South Beach -

  • Over the Weekend - Art Basel, Vanguard, Panda Bear and MSTRKRFT

If we don't see another piece of artwork any time soon, we can count ourselves lucky. Yes, our eyes are sore from the excessive visual stimulus. Art Basel brought with it plenty of fairs, celebrities and parties, so if you stayed home this weekend, what the hell were you thinking? But just in case you have a blurred memory of Basel, here is what you probably attended but don't remember over the weekend:Art Basel Miami Beach at Miami Beach Convention Center Miami Beach Convention Center played hos

  • On the List - Dieselboy, Holy Ghost!, Switch and Black Sunday

They say distance makes the heart grown fonder, but we sort of dropped the ball with On the List; its being almost three weeks since our last compilation. Don't fret children, we're back! And we promise we will never leave you -- er, again. We aren't sure how many of you actually want to go out this week, because we ourselves are still recovering from the Baselmania of last week. No more Grolsch, please! We're sticking to our fav from now on -- vodka and tonic with a twist of lime. Free drinks fo

  • Year in Review: Year in Club Photos 2008

Johnny LouisCheck it! 2008 was a busy year for clubland. We saw the departures of Pawn Shop Lounge, Studio A, Circa 28 and Suite, while we welcomed new venues like The Vagabond, Louis, Aero Bar, Bella Rose and Heathrow Lounge. And to our surprise, there was plenty of action beyond Winter Music Conference, as plenty of DJs made rare appearance outside of lone week at the end of March. Here is hoping 2009 is just as exciting, but for now, check out the Year in Club Photos 2008.-- Jose D. Duran

  • Wednesday Night: New Year's Eve Overthrow at Heathrow Lounge

Ian WitlenNew Year's Eve Overthrow with DJ Tamara Sky Wednesday, December 31, 2008 Heathrow Lounge, South Beach Better than: Ringing in the New Year wearing the played out all-white uniform of post-Diddy South Beach parties. Way too many times South Beach club parties end up being more hype than substance. The flyers are sexy. The announcements are written to conjure images of high-end decadence and stylized self-indulgence. But then, really, you just get a house full of primped and preened

  • The Juan MacLean Returns to Miami January 21

Last time I saw The Juan MacLean, it was at Poplife when it still called The District home. I actually didn't know who he was and had just sort of stumbled into the party. But soon after that, I was hooked. The Juan MacLean sound is so smooth and cool, it's hard to resist him calling you to the dancefloor. And I will heed his calling when he stops by The Vagabond Wednesday, January 21, as part of the Scion House Party series. Also on the bill is New York duo Still Going along with Poplife residen

  • Over the Weekend - VNDLSM, Art Deco Weekend and Bike Miami Days

We aren't exactly a fan of the cold weather. Every time someone says, "I love when Miami gets chilly," we resist the urge to hurt them. We don't live in Miami because of the cold weather -- in fact, that's why we live in Miami, because it doesn't get cold. In fact, we propose anyone who publicly states that they enjoy this weather should be forcibly removed from the county. So while we turn up the heater, here is what you missed over the weekend:VNDLSM at Heathrow LoungeToronto DJ duo VNDLSM spun

  • Miami International Voted One of the Worst Airports in the World

via JWalsh's Flickr/CC 2.0The place even looks depressing, doesn't it?In a poll of frequent international travelers, Miami International Airport has been named one of the worst in the world. Priority Pass, a company specializing in fancy airport lounge access, asked 14,500 of its members, who combined take about 250,000 flights a year, to rank their favorite and least favorite airports, and MIA came in as the fifth worst. London's Heathrow came out in the bottom, with Charles de Gau
