  • Coked-Up Russian Tapes Himself Going 260 MPH

Continuing the sad tradition of douchebag foreigners coming to Miami and being videotaped doing seriously fucked-up chemically enhanced things, this Russian decides it would be totally awesome to mug for the camera while endangering local drivers. For the first couple of minutes, this Soviet bro is more concerned with dancing around for his friend holding the camera, flicking it off, and licking the lens than he is with watching the road. Then he decides to push his BMW (rented?) to the limit

  • The $4,000 iPhone Bill

Like so many good boys and girl, Riptide dreams of sugar-plum fairies and Ol' Saint Nick delivering a shiny new iPhone. 'Tis the season for the 3G mobile Internet and being able to watch dumb YouTube videos of dogs dancing to Beyonce anywhere we want.  But woah to one Miami man who had his iPhone dreams come true, only to take a short trip to France and come back with a $4,109.76 bill. So angry was he that of course a YouTube video had to be made. We don't have an extra 4G around to pay f

It's not that people don't want to watch Mario Diaz-Balart videos on YouTube. This video of him experiencing some sort of Sarah Palin-induced seizuregasm at a John McCain rally has more than 35,000 views (although over half of those were from me). It's just that people don't want to watch Mario Diaz-Balart-approved Mario Diaz-Balart videos on YouTube. Today, Congress officially unleashed on the world HouseHub and SenateHub as a quick way to find viral video propaganda from your favorite congr

We know today isn't a national holiday, but it sure feels like one. So just in case you are stuck at work, rather than freezing your ass off in Washington D.C., Hulu is streaming the presidential inauguration live. So sit back, relax and press play. Just make sure to turn around every now and then to check to see if the office snitch is looking over your shoulder. Also, word to the wise: IT always frowns upon overloading the company's bandwidth (ours does, hence why the event will be broadcast

  • Dan Gelber's 100 Service Days Not At All Like Those Chiles & Graham Things, He Swears

It's difficult to make the leap directly from the state Senate to a state-wide elected office. But it's not impossible. Lawton Chiles got elected to the US Senate in 1970 by taking a 91 day, 1,003 mile walking trip across Florida. Bob Graham was elected to Governor in 1978 after starting a Workdays program in which he worked full days at various jobs like teacher, garbageman and even busboy. This was when grassroots campaigners actually got outside once in a while to see the grass, and didn't sp

  • About That Rihanna Post This Morning...

The last thing in the world I want is for a serious point I was trying to make about domestic abuse devolve into some pissing match with two radio jocks. The underlying subject matter is too serious. Enrique Santos left a long comment on the original post, and you should read it to get his side of the story. In response, I was disturbed by much of the gossipy response to the Chris Brown scandal that tried to justify the alleged assault by inferring that Rihanna some how deserved it. When I saw t

  • No One Wants To Watch Politicians Sing On YouTube, Let Alone Talk Politics

Here is one of our local state House members, Republican J.C. Planas, belting out "Walking in Memphis" at Disney's new American Idol attraction, as first seen on Naked Politics about a week ago. So far it only has 898 views. Which by YouTube standards is paltry, but by politician standards is down right astronomical. Ileana Ros-Lehtnin's only has 842 views for her official YouTube channel total, and she's federal. The videos on other local US Congressmen, like Debbie Wasserman Schultz and M

  • Senate 2010: Who Is Winning The Netroots So Far?

Oh, we know, we know, it's so early in the campaign, but with State Senator and US Senate Candidate Dan Gelber's announcement today that he'll Twitter his way through the 60 day legislative session up in Tallahassee, we decided to role out a feature we've been toying with for a while. So new is it that we don't even have some sort of catchy name for it (suggestions in the comments!), but basically we'll be tracking the net roots efforts of the 2010 Senate Candidates -- which at the moment amount

Black Owl Music is an independent blues label based in Miami that started in 2003. It seems to have been founded by or is at least very closely related to local bluesman Poppa E, whose show schedule reads like that of a player 40 years his junior, and whose band has a residency at Casa Panza (four-time Best of Miami winner). Check out the Black Owl Music streaming radio player, available through their KIAC internet radio page, a kind of netroots music marketing network alternative to myspace.Fin

Judy WaldmanThe FBI is currently investigating a YouTube video set to the music of 'N Sync's "Bye, Bye, Bye" that apparently infers that Homestead Councilwoman Judy Waldman should either be killed or off herself. The South Florida times broke the story. As of this afternoon the video has been removed. Though the poster of the video, who uses the handle "AtashyDI," still has 10 other videos. Most of them are weird, rambling photo and text montages aimed at various Homestead governm

Here's the official video for "Street Fighter Hood" by 4-3 Kingz. The song has a great hook that goes somethin like "Ayuken, Ayuken, Haduken, Haduken, A-tak, A-tak, A-tak tak tak round kick, A-tak, A-tak, A-tak tak tak round kick." • Throwback Tuesdays: Poser - "Give It Up"

Ah, thank Google Alerts for bringing this gem of South Florida music past to our inbox. The Sunset Strip story is one that has been told, but what of bands elsewhere in the country who were plying the same sound? One of these, it seems, was a band called Poser based in Ft. Lauderdale. (Perhaps "poser" meaning, well, "poseur" wasn't such common parlance in the 1980s?). A YouTube user named "rockinroger2" uploaded this video of the band about a year ago and has this to say as a description:

  • Want to Open for Aerosmith? Don't Worry, You Don't Actually Have to Play a Real Guitar

Now this is an interesting promotion. As regular Crossfade readers know by now, ZZ Top and Aerosmith are playing the BankAtlantic center on Monday July 13. Aerosmith is doing a big promotional push on their newest video game: Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, and part of that promotion involves you. Before each show on the tour, two lucky geeks will get the chance to "perform" in front of the audience as a kind of warm up for ZZ Top. Now they're not trusting you to play any of your own music, much less yo

via elireskow's Flickr photostreamOne of the biggest shows over the past weekend was the Lynyrd Skynyrd gig this past Saturday at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach. Sadly, it seems not many people have shared photos from it on Flickr. But I did find this artsy-type shot from the crowd on elireskow's photostream. It kind of  reinforces Skynyrd fan stereotypes, but it's a nice photo all the same. While folks in the crowd may not be publicly sharing too many still photos yet (hey, fee

  • Video: Miami Beach Castle Burns

One of Miami Beach's most eccentric homes, a 10-bedroom, two-story mansion built in 1925 in the style of a medieval castle -- complete with moat, draw bridge, gargoyles, and turrets -- caught fire this morning. Firefighters got the blaze under control, but the AP's YouTube channel has this video of the blaze. The home has been unoccupied for the past two years.

  • Worldstar Hip-Hop Hijacks New Times Prunk TV Episode With Mack Maine, Kevin Rudolf

Worldstar Hip-Hop is one of the most heavily trafficked sites on the Internet. Last week, the site featured a New Times episode of Prunk TV on its front page. As of now it has accrued 70,000 hits and change. Thing is, somebody downloaded it off the New Times YouTube channel, added the Worldstar watermark to it, and then uploaded it to wherever it is they host their videos. We got jacked, but Crossfade's not mad at 'em. Fuck it, that's the Internet, and that's exactly why we watermark our shit (

  • Pretty Ricky Moves to Big Cat Records For Upcoming New Album

via myspace.com/prettyrickyThe end of the millennium has been pretty rough on the Carver Ranches-birthed R&B group Pretty Ricky. First, last year original Pleasure P quit the group to pursue a solo career. His single "Boyfriend #2" peaked at number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- a higher position than any Pretty Ricky song has reached since 2006. So they replaced him with a guy named 4Play, and recorded a new album called 80s Babies, set to be released late last year. Its lead singles, "C

To realize just how truly awesome this last Depeche Mode show was at BankAtlantic Center -- and, well, to realize just how obsessive the band's fans are -- just punch in "Depeche Mode BankAtlantic Center" into YouTube. Despite the band's rejection of most official media outlets' photo requests, a large chunk of the show wound up on the Internet anyways. But if anything, these videos prove how worthy it is to buy a ticket to see these guys the next time around. While there were the usual iPhones

Well, the contemporary flouting of respect for copyrights has provided one great thing. If you miss some big club or music event, you're sure to find it on the Internet, somewhere. "Amateur" videographers and photographers are as good as the pros these days, and YouTube now has HD, so.... I missed the Junior Boys at the Vagabond last Saturday thanks to the flu (boo), but I got to catch, this morning, at least one song, thanks to YouTube user ZManBarzel. If you missed it, and it's your kind of thing, you missed out: NeckFace's Devil's Disciple opening at O.H.W.O.W. was one of the best parties on Halloween. And Busy P's set at the afterparty at Poplife didn't disappoint, either. As much as we wanted to hate on it and find the track selection stuck in 2006, Pedro Winter has updated his style and can definitely still get a crowd moving. • Dear Florida Media: Not Every Stupid Political YouTube Video is News

Just weeks after much too much of Florida's political establishment and media took a dumb Crist/Rubio remix of an old YouTube meme way too seriously, there's another stupid YouTube video that certain journalists, it seems, are forcibly trying to turn into a controversy. It's a ridiculous anti-Rubio ad that somehow tries to paint Rubio as a secret Democrat lover. The evidence: Barack Obama once said his name at a CANF event, and in his former-role as a political commenter for Univision he ma

  • Wish You Were There: Lita Ford Sings "Close My Eyes Forever" at Revolution

Lita Ford may have taken a long while out of the spotlight, but the Internet ephemera floating around, capturing her show last weekend at Revolution, proves she's got staying power. There's really something about a woman who owns her sexuality and still kicks ass. Also, her 1988 hit duo with Ozzy, "Close My Eyes Forever," is a classic guilty-pleasure power ballad jam. Well, hell, you shouldn't feel guilty about rocking out to that one in the car alone. None of the people in these YouTube videos
