  • Butta Verses Video--"If I Die"

Coral Springs-based hip-hop artist, Butta Verses, is still riding the buzz of his critically acclaimed new disc, Reality BV. National hip-hop blogs have been giving the record overwhelmingly positive reviews and it's all deserving since Butta definitely brought his A-game lyrically on the album. Here's a new video for the song, "If I Die" that's well shot--in a graveyard mind you--and features the buttery flow of Butta V and the smooth vocals of local singer Lucian on the track. If anyone kno

  • Kicking cars and punching cops: Highlights from Gaza Protest Arrests

An 18 year-old from Coral Springs was busted for wielding brass knuckles and a pocket knife, a petite middle-aged woman shouted "baby killers!," and a mob of protesters chucked rocks at a cop car. The Israeli-Palestinian protest Sunday on Biscayne Boulevard was a loud, colorful microcosm of hate - with Muslims waving red and green Palestinian flags on one side of the boulevard, and Jews holding hand-penned signs on the other. As the Herald reported yesterday, a dozen people were arrested, mostly

  • Beerfest, Beer Wars, and Beer By Itself

Thoughts from all over: -Saturday is the 12th Annual New Times Original Beerfest, in case all the fanfare has eluded you. Show up at 7 p.m. with $25 in hand (or buy tix in advance now - highly recommended), and you'll be rewarded with four hours of non-stop beer sampling, eating, and live music. If you went last year and were slightly disappointed by the long lines, crowded spaces, and shortage of craft beer, don't worry. Organizers this year have worked hard to make this fest bigger, more spac

  • Undercover Fed Busts Major Bonanno Mob Ring In South Florida

An undercover FBI sting unraveled a South Florida wing of the infamous Bonanno Crime Family, leading to charges this morning against 11 members who are accused of running a dizzying criminal empire.Allegedly, the men smuggled cigarettes and committed bank and mail fraud. They laundered money, sold drugs and extorted business owners with violent threats. They trafficked stolen goods and ran insurance and Medicare scams. And just for good measure, they beat people up for money, conspired to murder

He says "It's always good to figure out how to introduce the average beer drinker to new flavors. You have to know what everything tastes like and what it's similar to in order to make recommendations like that. I never complain about the research, that's for sure. I think that good beer is meant to be shared with others and the more people that are interested in good b

  • Video: Cyrus Bolooki of New Found Glory Talks About His Band's Upcoming New Video

Last week I dropped in on Jacobs Ladder at the Dungeon recording studio in North Miami Beach, where they were working on a new EP. (Pictures and video are coming later this week.) The producer on the project is Cyrus Bolooki, drummer of Coral Springs' biggest pop-punk exports, New Found Glory. Although he lives in South Florida again, he had just returned on a red-eye from a marathon video shoot with his band in L.A. Here he is talking about the concept for that video, for the song "Don't Let
