  • Initial Lineup Announced for Langerado 2009: Snoop Dogg, Chromeo, Bad Brains, Public Enemy, Cafe Tacuba, and More

After much Internet gossip and rumor-mongering, the folks behind Langerado announced they would release the first phase of the festival's 2009 lineup yesterday morning. That didn't happen, with a delay as organizers "finalized last-minute details." Still, this morning they've come forward with a few names, several of which will be appearing at the festival for the first time. The lineup announcement comes after the jump. -- Arielle Castillo

  • Top Dance Albums of 2008

Any knucklehead with DSL and a laptop can now make an electronic track. With a half hour of clicking and fiddling, you can sample enough cheesy beats and mashups to clog arteries from here to Berlin. Simple dropdown mouse maneuvers can transform electro tracks into progressive house tracks (from dry and synthetic to wet and gushy), rhythm tracks can be tempo-tweaked with an upward toggle to change a Timbaland beat into a Chromeo one. Add some T-Pain-esque pitch-correction vocals to your between

  • Things Get Hairy Wednesdays at LIV

Image via MySpaceThings will get hairy with Kid Sister Febrauary 25 at LIV.Call us nightlife anthropologists, because our assessment of downtown's nightlife set being courted by glitzy South Beach continues to be reinforced. We wonder if we can present this as a thesis for our doctoral research? The ever-expanding Poplife, plus Overthrow (Alexis Mincolla and Sam Baum) and Vice Versa (Xavier Burt), have join forces for Dirty Hairy, a new Wednesday night party at LIV that might just give Miami Beac

  • Random Abum Review: MSTRKRFT - Fist Of God

MSTRKRFTFist Of God(Dim Mak)Three words: Worst. Album. Ever. MSTRKRFT should be glad we don't have a rating system here on Crossfade, because if we did, they would rightfully receive a zero-star rating from us. Honestly, we really wanted to like this album, but there is just no getting around how big of a mess it truly is.Signs that this album was going to be an utter failure was easy to spot when the duo left its label Last Gang, home of Crystal Castles, Metric, Tiga and Chromeo, for Dim Mak, a

  • WMC Thursday Recap: Sasha & Digweed Cruise, Creme De La Creme at Soho Studios, MINUS Showcase at Karu & Y

The main room of Soho Studios around 1:30 a.m.My WMC day on Thursday went from swish to underground to somewhere in the middle, and it was interesting to see how conference is holding up across the economic strata. It seems like in the alternate world of dance music, people who have been partying on yachts are still partying on yachts. The rest of us are maybe saving cash by staying home more this year, or bored of the excess these industry extravaganzas can bring. To wit -- my day started on the

  • Wednesday Blog Watch: Off the Radar Looks Across the Pond, Derick G. Does Amsterdam

via the305.comThe305 is relaunching its print magazine!*Off the Radar is pretty much the only locally based blog that keeps up with all the international bloggy MP3 stuff, while providing some decent writing that explains why the hell we should care. You won't find too much coverage of the local scene here, but Ray Milian and company always dig up really fascinating new stuff that's not necessarily all over Hype Machine. Lately it's seemed to skew towards electro-pop and lo-fi stuff -- with

  • Miami's Jesp Releasing Debut November 3 via Sweat Records

It's about time that someone take back the synth-pop sound back to the Magic City. Joseph Espinosa, a.k.a. Jesp, seems to be doing exactly that. With sound that something of cross between Chromeo and Jan Hammer, Jesp will drop his debut album, Heart Rhythm, November 3 via Sweat Records' website as a limited free download.Espinosa is no stranger to the city's music scene. He gain notoriety as the vocalist and guitarist for the now defunct band Outereach. After that, he quickly picked up the pi
