  • Year in Review: Year in Club Photos 2008

Johnny LouisCheck it! 2008 was a busy year for clubland. We saw the departures of Pawn Shop Lounge, Studio A, Circa 28 and Suite, while we welcomed new venues like The Vagabond, Louis, Aero Bar, Bella Rose and Heathrow Lounge. And to our surprise, there was plenty of action beyond Winter Music Conference, as plenty of DJs made rare appearance outside of lone week at the end of March. Here is hoping 2009 is just as exciting, but for now, check out the Year in Club Photos 2008.-- Jose D. Duran

  • The Sounds of Throbbing Gristle, Can, and Neu!... on South Beach???

Federico Nessi, a.k.a DJ Healer, is an artist (see the latest Sweat Records installation) and a repatriated Miamian who likes to dance, but scoffs at the current notions of "indie." Thus he and Ricardo Guerrero, a.k.a. This Heart Electric, a.k.a. that dude from Animals of the Arctic, a.k.a. DJ R3K , are putting on their own night. They've turned their love of the likes of Can, Throbbing Gristle, Neu!, and, on the newer side, Dino Felipe, into a no-cover underground weekly party, Psychic Tuesdays

  • DJ R3K Says Techno Sucks

R3K was on the streets of downtown putting flyers on peoples cars. I asked him what the deal was. Here's the interview.New Times: What's your name and what do you do?My [DJ] name is R3K . I spin at Psychic Tuesdays with DJ Healer at Bella Rose and Nightdrive Wednesdays at The News Lounge with DJPJ and Treasures. Also occasional random parties, events, or shows that I might throw with Psychic Youth Inc., Deuce Crew, or The Remote Controllers. I stay pretty busy!NT: Techno sucks, what the fuck?To

  • Nightlife Review: Psychic Tuesdays at Bella Rose

DJ HealerThis past Tuesday, I passed by Takeout Tuesdays at Buck 15 and caught a few extremely pleasant, acoustic numbers from Cleaveland Jones's version of reggae blanc at Shiso. Then my compact and highly efficient questing party and I made our way to Bella Rose for another slice of Psychic Tuesdays.  When we walked in we couldn't see shit except some dork waving a flashlight from the DJ booth, a poor man's lightscape. The dork turned out to be DJ Healer, who promptly dropped the Cramps'

  • On The List - New Trend Alert Edition

With the economy going way south, it seems like the nightlife industry is starting to implement new business tactics. Bottle service is surely going the way of the dinosaur, and the industry knows if it's going to survive its got to find untapped market.Enter in the downtown hipster promoters.Often relegated to the seedy downtown/Overtown nightclub scene, it seems they are now in vogue with South Beach's nightlife impresarios. Poplife hosts now at Louis on Tuesdays and Rokbar on Thursdays, while

  • Facebook Censors Promoter Alexis Mincolla's Flyers and Viral Videos UPDATE

Photo by Charis KirchheimerUPDATE: Facebook has restored Alexis Mincolla's privileges to upload all the Satanic-themed nightclub violence footage he wants.  It appears Facebook doesn't like what Alexis Mincolla, the mastermind behind the popular Black Sunday party at Bella Rose, is posting on his page. The social media network's Iron Guard has taken down several photos and six videos the self-professed purveyor of rad uploaded to his Facebook homepage. Those included a few of his entertaini

DJ PJPatrick Walsh aka DJPJ who has been making waves at the News Lounge at Nightdrive and occasionally at Psychic Tuesdays over at Bella Rose is making a DJ appearance at Artwalk's Awarehouse this Saturday, May 9. You can expect an eclectic and varied set with plenty of rare grooves and b-sideish stuff.  In preparation, Walsh has few sets up for free download. • Skream Coming to White Room September 16

via MySpaceSkreamDubstep DJ/producer Skream is no stranger to Miami. He played at Laundry Bar late last year and made several appearances at this year's WMC. But something clicked in the Magic City earlier this year that has it enamored with the dubstep genre. It's not entirely surprising since Miami bass and dubstep seem like not-so-distant cousins.Top that off with the success of the recent Trouble & Bass event Bella Rose and the Get Low monthly party at The Vagabond, and it's safe to s
