  • Miami Chefs Move, Restaurants Close, People Get Taxed And Die

Heralded French chef Christian Delouvrier is gone from La Goulue in The Shoppes at Bal Harbour. If you log in to the restaurant website for details, it will say: "Coming Soon! Segafredo Zanetti Espresso has opened yet another café, this one at 124 Collins Avenue -- they already operate one on Brickell, one in Bal Harbour, and about 570 more worldwide. Segafredo South Pointe will follow the same successful formula as the rest: Coffee, snacks, cocktails, a late night lounge scene with live music and DJ (from Thursday through Saturday until 3:00 a.m. or later), and a comfy, Euro-groovy ambiance with red leather couches indoors and an outdoor area made to look like a liv

Click here to view the full slideshow. It never fails: just as we finish explaining to our out-of-town friends that Miami's not really like that, we catch wind of something like this: a Plastic Surgery Fashion Show. Last Thursday night, you could smell the silicone on Bay Harbor Islands. As a mitzvah-trained DJ spun techno music, partygoers munched on pigs-in-a-blanket as they stud

  • The Great Miami Restaurant Bubble of 2009

We alluded to the bubble in this column yesterday. Here is a list of many, maybe most, but certainly not all of the mid-to-high end restaurants that have opened over the past 6 months (actually, the majority are fairly expensive). We're leaving out lower end ethnic joints, pizza places, and the like (except for a couple of high-profile low-enders like Bulldog and 8-Ounce). Read into the list as you will. I think it adds up to trouble ahead.Area 31; Sra. Martinez; Meat Market; 1 Blue at The Regen

  • Green Graziano's, Crazy Pianos, Interactive Menus, and a New Chef at Loftin's

Crazy Pianos Tuning UpThe new dueling piano bar, restaurant, and late night entertainment venue in Coconut Grove (second floor of CocoWalk at 3015 Grand Avenue) is offering brunch from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Sunday. Also: two-for-one drink specials Thursdays 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Crazy Pianos claims to have "the only 'beer tables' in the country filled with extra cold (32 degrees) Heineken draft beer containing ice chips". Sounds refreshing. What You See Is What You Get, But You Ma

  • Mark Militello Leaves 1 Bleu for The Office

Photo by Jacob KatelChef Mark MilitelloChef Mark Militello has left 1 Bleu at the One Resort and Spa (formerly The Regent Bal Harbour) to join The Office, a gastropub in Delray said to be opening in late November. Last December Militello took the reigns as executive chef of culinary operations at The Regent Bal Harbour. That was only six months after the last of his four namesake restaurants, Mark's in Boca Raton's Mizner Park, closed. The Regent Bal Harbour was sold in June. The Office is

  • Weekly Wrap Up: The Friday Cheers Gotdammit

Photo via Flickr/CC 2.0You worked all week at your desk job, factory, kitchen, office, street corner, or couch, and now it's time to let loose and let that weekend energy plow you over like a bulldozer. So things are tough all over; jobs, school, money, healthcare, war, that kind of stuff, but we're also livin' in Miami and the season's kicking into gear. We've got more slammed restaurants, parties, shows, bottles, models, and all that they entail than anywhere else in the country with as goo
