Whiskey Joe's is a fun, new outdoor place that is priming up for the 2012-13 season. Open only two months, the place with a tiki-hut roof and fishy décor welcomes with an outdoor, casual setting and a friendly staff ready to cater to your culinary desires.

"We get all kinds of clients here, especially people who enjoy the beach and boats," assistant general manager Manny Gutierrez says. "The average age is about 30. We've got plenty of new things happening here. Our sous-chef, Ismael Collazo, will cook your catch for you.

"Bring it in, he'll fillet it and cook it up, and you'll get two sides to enjoy along with your catch. If you're a biker, we've started a Sunday bikers' night, which is great, and we've even got a cops' night. When the cops are here, we all feel very protected."

Whiskey Joe's appetizers and snacks include gator bites -- breaded-fried gator pieces that become bite-size nuggets topped with chipotle mayo for $11.99 -- and shrimp and sausage quesadillas, made with andouille sausage, shrimp, and four cheeses and then blended with chipotle cream, pico de gallo, and salsa for $9.99. There's an ample variety of beers and wines, as well as hefty specialty drinks. The popular rock coconut mojito contains Bacardi rock coconut, fresh lime juice, organic agave nectar, and a splash of club soda. New for dieters, the 160 margarita is the way to go. Made with Milagro tequila, organic agave nectar, Grand Marnier, and fresh-squeezed lime juice, this yummy libation contains only 160 calories.

There are also tacos, sliders, soups, salads, flatbread pizzas, burgers, wings, nachos, and seafood specials. Mostly everything on the menu is under $13.

Whiskey Joe's is looking for a few bands to lend some energy to the eatery. They already have hot DJs lined up and some local bands ready to boogie. But they are interviewing musicians for upcoming special events and weekend gigs. Thursday FIU college nights and Sunday and Monday football nights are also in the planning stages.

Parking is free.
