Thanksgiving is today, and while most of us will open a few bottles of wine for the main meal, we suggest welcoming family and friends with a smart cocktail.
But what cocktail is appropriate for Thanksgiving in Miami? If we could dream, we'd love to see a classic winter libation interpreted with a Floridian twist.
That's exactly what Julio Cabrera did when he created the Pilar Alexander. The Regent Cocktail Club mixologist (and 2013 Most Imaginative Bartender), updated the classic Alexander with Papa's Pilar dark rum.

The rum, named after Ernest Hemingway's beloved boat, is blended from the finest Caribbean rums, which are aged in bourbon barrels and port casks, then finished in Spanish sherry casks. Its sweetness blends well with the crème de cacao and heavy cream. The nutmeg used in the cocktail recalls the spices of the holiday.
We'd serve this drink on its own or with a traditional cheese and nut plate. With a cold snap forecast, a robust, creamy cocktail is in order to start the season off with some good cheer.
