Even better, Sun Life Stadium, in the midst of a two-phase remodel, debuted new seating and a host of food options including local favorites Cafe Versailles, Key West's Sloppy Joe's Bar, and Bodega Taqueria y Tequila.
But the best part of the remodel is the introduction of two taprooms. Located near sections 117 and 147. They are accessible to everyone in the stadium wishing to enjoy a craft beer.
The taprooms are also hyper-local, with all 16 taps reserved for Florida brews. In addition, 36 different varieties of local, regional, and national craft beers and ciders are available in bottles.
Ben Metzger, Sun Life Stadium's director of concessions and retail management, wanted very much to bring quality craft beer to football fans. "I lived in Minneapolis for seven years and the craft scene beer there is very mature, and I was there to see all these craft beers grow and develop.
"I came to South Florida a year and a half ago, and in that time, there's such a great time and a renaissance for craft beer in South Florida. Down here, I was able to meet the guys from Funky Buddha and I just love trying craft beers. These two taprooms were really, really important to me and I hope it's a bit of a sensation because there aren't really too many stadiums that have anything like this."
Metzger says that the inclusion of local breweries was crucial for fans to have a full-blown Florida experience at the stadium. "Sushi Maki, Cafe Versailles, Bodega — every partner that we brought on locally based and I wanted to do the same thing with the beer."
The stadium's director of concessions said that he had a great time selecting the beers for inclusion into the program. "We have pilsners, IPAs, weisses, so people will be able to get their tried and true favorites and also try some new, interesting choices."
Of course, if tradition dictates knocking back a few Buds with friends, all your favorite domestic and import brands like Heineken, Corona, Budweiser, Fat Tire, and more are still available throughout the stadium.
