Bookkeeper and mother-of-two Marie Castro is organizing the swap. She became interested in these events, which have been popping up in cities around the country, when she read about them on a New York blog.
"I wanted to participate in one but since I didn't find one [in South Florida], I decided to give it a try," she said.
So how does it work? People who sign up bring homemade edibles and set them up at a table. When everyone is set up, participants have 30 minutes to look around, see what's available and put down their names on items they're interested in. Then it's one hour of swapping. Don't worry, if you hate granola and someone offers you their homemade version in exchange for your pesto, you're not obligated to accept the offer.
The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Point Pleasant Spa in Wilton Manors. Yes, we know it's Broward but this is the first of these events to take place in our backyard. If it goes well, Castro will host one every other month. Those interested in attending can register here.
