We first heard in 2011 that Michael Schwartz was taking over the restaurant at the Raleigh Hotel. Now, about one and a half years later, the endeavor's opening date and name have finally been revealed.
Restaurant Michael Schwartz will open Monday, April 22, at the iconic South Beach art deco hotel as part of an extensive plan that will include renovations of the rooms, suites, and many of the common areas.
Schwartz's new place will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week. In addition, the restaurant will offer snacks and room service to hotel guests. There will even be boxed lunches for beachgoers.
The menu was created by a culinary team including Schwartz, Michael's
Genuine Food & Drink executive chef Bradley Herron, MGFD executive pastry chef
Hedy Goldsmith, and Restaurant
Michael Schwartz executive chef Daniel Ganem.
Restaurant Michael Schwartz will source local
products whenever possible. The menu will feature shared plates, perfect
for dining on the lantern-lit outdoor terrace.

The menu will
be updated daily with seasonal selections from Schwartz's favorite
farmers, ranchers, and fishermen.
Expect items such as grilled octopus
with crushed hazelnuts, green olives, kumquat, preserved lemon, and
parsley, and steak tartare with fresh herbs, crispy shallots, quail egg
yolk, and grilled bread. Beginning in May, the restaurant will offer a
Monday-night family meal -- a weekly prix fixe menu featuring four courses
served family-style.
Schwartz has also taken over the Raleigh's
Martini Bar and will offer innovative cocktails based on classic
libations. Each Tuesday, a guest mixologist will spotlight a martini
creation.
Michael Schwartz recently opened the Cypress Room in the Design District and plans to open a restaurant at the SLS Hotel in Brickell in the distant future.
