It's Pizza Rustica's 15th anniversary and these pie purveyors want you to party like it's 1996. What does that mean? Well, you'll pay like it's 1996. Partying is actually optional.
For 19 hours starting today, December 15 at 11 a.m., slice prices will flash back to 1996. You know, when Prince was a hit maker as well as an unpronounceable symbol, and a cheese slice at Pizza Rustica cost $2.50. Other varieties were a buck more.
And will be again. But only on the anniversary and only at the Washington and 9th location.
Anyone seeking 15 minutes-- or more likely, seconds-- of fame would be wise to show up in the afternoon when a videographer will be recording customer's fond memories of the place.
In the spirit of things that make you go "awww," Pizza Rustica's Melissa Mokha explained, "A lot of customers have been coming in since we first opened, and they have a lot of great stories to tell." The clips will then be streamed on Facebook.
Too cheap? So, right about now, inquiring (and some would say, slightly suspicious) minds may be asking "OK, great. But what's the catch?"
Well, there is one. Aha! You knew it, right? But really, it's no biggie. All you have to do is hit Pizza Rustica's Facebook page and download an anniversary invitation. Then bring it, either printed or stored in your smart phone, to the 9th and Washington location and bam! The (pizza) party's on.
Just remember, it's all about the slice prices. All other menu items are available circa 2011 prices
But, oh, what a slice it is.
In case you haven't heard, it's big. Really big. "We have to have two paper plates to put one slice on," Mokha said. Each piece, like its mother pie, is rectangular, and did we mention big?
About 8 inches by 4 inches big, to be approximate.
While the slices will stay the same, their blast-from-the-past pricing will not. So, what are you waiting for? Go get your invitation and party like it's 1996. Because after 6 a.m. Dec. 16, you'll pay like it's 2011. Because, well, it is.
