Miami New Times and New Times Broward-Palm Beach have an immediate opening for an assistant web editor. This position combines journalism with social media marketing and analytical data management to increase the audience for New Times on its desktop and mobile applications.

The assistant web editor assigns and edits photo slide shows, works with freelancers, and collaborates with blog editors. The assistant web editor works closely alongside the web editor and editor-in-chief in the planning and execution of all online coverage.

Outside the site, the assistant web editor manages the paper's several social media accounts, including Facebook and Twitter, with the expectation of continued engagement and growth of those accounts.

The job also requires strong news judgment and a skilled hand when it comes to story placement and presentation. The assistant web editor must be able to write compelling headlines that get shared on social media and attract eyeballs via search results.

The successful candidate will be aware of the latest changes in the digital world, whether that be new ways to share content via social media or new tools to use. A strong interest in and working knowledge of the stories covered by New Times is required. This is a 25-hour-per-week job with opportunity for growth.

One year experience working for the online arm of a news outlet is preferred. Please send:

- Links to relevant content (writing samples, social media campaigns, slide shows, or video)

to [email protected]. No phone calls please.
