It's Friday and you know the drill: Survive the rest of the day in order to party this weekend. However, today just got a little brighter with the knowledge that it's National Doughnut Day, a completely real holiday that started in 1938 by Salvation Army's Chicago arm as a way to raise funds for the organization.

With that in mind, nab a free doughnut and make plans for the rest of the weekend — which starts now!

National Doughnut Day
To celebrate this wonderful day, several doughnut chains are giving away free doughnuts.

Walk into Dunkin Donuts and get a free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage. The offer stands all day, today, June 5 as long as supplies last.

Krispy Kreme is a little more generous with their offer of a free warm glazed doughnut to anyone — with no purchase necessary.

Check our Entenmann's Facebook page and you can win a year's worth of free doughnuts. They'll also donate $1 to the Salvation Army for every contest entry.

Cumberland Farms is giving a free doughnut to customers who buy a coffee or “Chill Zone” beverage between 5 to 10 a.m.
Drunkin' Donuts
Of course, there are doughnuts...and there are Drunkin' Donuts. STK Miami is bringing back their popular "Drunkin' Donuts now through June 30 in celebration of National Doughnut Day. These little boozy babies, created by corporate pastry chef Abbie White, come in three decadent flavors including Cocoa Bomb, filled with lemon custard and hazelnut liquor; Fruity rebel, a donut infused with cereal custard and raspberry liquor; and Not Your Daddy's Donut, filled with cherry bourbon custard and orange liquor. Get them all month, but tonight, June 5, purchase the donuts for $12 in the bar or lounge area and you'll get a complimentary glass of prosecco.

Jugofresh Opens its new Coral Gables Location
Here's another reason to hang in the City Beautiful this weekend. Jugofresh has opened their new location, at 2516 Ponce de Leon Blvd. The 975-square-foot shop has intimate spaces, free WiFi, and healthy cold-pressed juices and tasty food that's actually good for you. As an added incentive to visit, the shop has partnered with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to help raise funds to better green garden initiatives at neighboring elementary schools. Ten percent of this week's sales at the new Coral Gables location will go straight to Little Carver's green garden program.

Jugofresh Coral Gables'  hours are Monday though Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

New Menu at Market at the Edition Hotel
If you haven't checked out Market at the Edition, it's time you did. It's basically a fast-casual restaurant and marketplace — as imagined by one of the top chefs in the world. Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s concept combines a grab and go market and full service restaurant into a 4,600-square-foot space that still manages to be intimate and cozy. This weekend, Market has a new menu of items to try including smoked salmon and avocado toast at breakfast, broccoli rabe pizza at lunch, chicken and coconut soup and roasted lobster for dinner. There's also a new beverage menu, featuring a passion sangria, made with fresh passion fruit; and the copper rose, a mix of Elyx vodka, Campari, cranberry, raspberry, and mint.
Sunday with Cindy Hutson
Join chef Cindy Hutson from Ortanique on the Mile on Sunday, June 7 at Flavorish Market as she shares recipes from her cookbook, From the Tip of my Tongue, and tells some culinary tales. You'll break bread with the chef over small bites and wine. Best of all?  It's free, although an RSVP is requested. The demo runs from 6 - 7:30 p.m. RSVP via email to [email protected]
