You've made it to another Friday. Even better news: this weekend is going to be filled with new flavors and experiences to explore. Ever have a chocolate-and-lobster infused beer or explored the world of Florida weisses? Maybe you've always wanted to be on television or join a (not very) exclusive club. This weekend you can do all of the above and more.
Your weekend starts now!
International Beer Day is August 7 — Celebrate with the Choc Lobster
Today is International Beer Day. This hallowed holiday you've probably never heard of but will start celebrating immediately started in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, and is now recognized in 50 countries, including the U.S. The goal of International Beer Day is to unite the world under the banner of beer, by celebrating the beers of all nations together on a single day.
With that in mind, there's probably no better place to hoist a cold one than at World of Beer. After all, it does have "world" and "beer" in the same sentence.
If you're wondering what to order, might we suggest a Dogfish Head Choc Lobster? This unique and rare brew is a 5/6 percent ABV porter brewed with dark cocoa and lobsters from Ebone Cook Lobster Co. That's right, chocolate and lobster. It's normally only available summertime at the brewery in Rehoboth Beach, Deleware, but World of Beer is pouring this unique beer during the month of August. In case you're wondering, this chocolately beer with hints of the sea won a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival.
The Federal's Bottomless Happy Hour
Now that Friday is here, make your way over to the Federal Food Drink & Provisions for their bottomless happy hour. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., you can enjoy endless refills on select wines, sangrias, michelada mojitos, Ani Palmers, and Federal bellinis for $19 per person. More of a beer person? Select brewskis are three bucks and bar snacks like Buffalo pig wings, deviled eggs, hummus, black bean hummus, and biskits are $5.
Villa Azur's Spice Priced Cocktails
Miami Spice continues, and if you'd prefer to drink your way to deals, Villa Azur is celebrating with a special Miami Spice cocktail menu. Head bartender Martin Guitierrez has curated a changing cocktail menu with selections prices at $10. Six drinks are featured, with the menu rotated every two weeks. For now, enjoy libations like the basil kiwi mojito, a tequila-spiked pink lemonade, and a black sun, made with Solbeso cacao spirit, Cointreau, jalapeño, blackberries, and cilantro. The special Miami Spice cocktails are offered daily (except Thursdays) from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
J. Wakefield's Miami Madness
If you haven't been introduced to sour beers, Saturday is a good time to get acquainted with them. These crisp, bright Florida Weisse beers are made with fresh fruit and are refreshing as hell.
J. Wakefield, the king of sours, is releasing its Miami Madness on Saturday, August 8. From 1 p.m. to 1 a.m., you can try the Madness, made with mango, guava, and passion fruit, or any of the 19 other tart, fruity, colorful beers in flavors like lychee rose and Key lime margarita. Each beer is five bucks and when the taps run out, they run out, so get there early for the best selection. Food trucks will be on hand throughout the day, so you can keep drinking.
Ms. Cheezious Wants to Make You a Star
Every day you watch Food Network, dreaming of your very own show. After all, how hard would it be to talk about the food you're eating on camera? Well, Sunday's your chance. A new national television food show is filming at Ms. Cheezious' cheesy sandwich shop this Sunday, August 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Though everyone's very hush-hush about the specifics, there's one thing that is known — the show producers are looking for fans of Ms. Cheezious' grilled cheese sammies to interview on camera. Even if you don't get chosen for your 15 minutes of fame, you will get to enjoy $4 Sixpoint brews and good food. Plus, you'll be able to tell everyone who the "attractive" mystery host actually is!
Sunday Night Drinking Club
Toast to the end of another fabulous Miami weekend at Thompson Miami Beach's Sunday Night Drinking Club. The club, which you're now an honorary member of, takes place every Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the resort's historic 1930s House and features select $7 cocktails and food specials.
