Last month was Mother's Day and it was all about flowers, champagne, and lovely brunches filled with tea and crumpets and complimentary roses.
This Sunday it's dad's turn and, while he could probably skip the crumpets, that doesn't mean you should give the old man the shaft by getting him another necktie and calling it a day. Psst....in case you haven't noticed, by the way -- no one in Miami even wears a necktie.
You know what dad wants? He wants to spend the afternoon with you...and a hunk of meat...and a few bourbons.
Here are the top five most macho brunches in Miami. We're talking steak, booze, and cigars. All worthy of the man who raised you -- complimentary roses not included. Note: Most prices exclude tax and tip and reservations are suggested.
5. It's all about the steak at The Forge's special "daddy loves steak" brunch, where the old man will feast on a three-course prix-fixe menu that includes a choice of black bean and lobster soup or Caesar salad for starters, followed by grilled boneless prime rib with sautéed portobello mushrooms and onions for the main course. For dessert, there's souffle (because kings eat souffle). Brunch is $75 per person, plus, dad will walk out with a $25 gift card for a later date.
4.Terrazza at Shore Club is promising the "manliest Father's Day brunch in Miami", with a buffet that includes charcuterie with plenty of Italian salami and prosciutto; a salad bar; assorted pizzas; soy marinated steak; homemade ravioli; an omelet station; and decadent desserts. Dad can indulge in a signature Father's Day cocktail (basically a whiskey-soaked minty iced tea) or have as many bloody marys, mimosas, and bellinis as he wants (because it's his day). $38 per person (includes one Father's Day signature cocktail) or $58 per dad with unlimited mimosas, bloody marys and/or bellinis).
3. Men like meat. Your dad is a man (duh). That means your dad wants to go to Fogo De Chao on Father's Day so he can sit back and allow authentic gaucho chefs to serve him unlimited meat from roasting skewers. Dad will thrill to the offer of 16 different versions of animal flesh as he swoons into a carnivorous frenzy. Of course there's an extra large salad bar to go with all this meat, so he can report back to mom and his cardiologist that he ate a balanced meal. $48.50, plus tax and tip gets dad this meaty meal. Bring the kids, because children seven -- 12 eat at half price; kids under seven eat for free. To sweeten the deal, all dads will receive a gift card to enjoy a complimentary Fogo lunch or dinner at a future date. The Father's Day meat mania starts at 1 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m.
2. Look, your dad was a football champ in his day. He drives good ole' Detroit iron. He voted for Regan. He's not into steamed dumplings and chicken claws. That's why you should take him to Alba Seaside Italian's "get sum" brunch, served from 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. This domestic version of dim sum features carts serving food that your father actually wants to eat like stuffed French toast ($14), filet mignon and eggs ($24), smoked salmon ($15), and omelets ($14). You know -- stuff he can identify...and actually like. Wash down all that good food with Woodford Reserve cocktails. That's American hootch, son!
1. With good chow, cigars, complimentary rum, a pig roast, and foosball (yes, we said foosball), Florida Cookery wins the top spot to make dad's day. The barbeque brunch buffet ($45 per person) includes a raw bar, BBQ meats (including plenty of ribs and grilled whole fish) and a whole roast pig! A manly array of buffet items include mac & cheese, cheesy grits, salads, and tons of breakfast breads. For dessert, dad can "tie one on" with necktie and bow tie cupcakes. Dad can even roll his own cigars after the meal. Brunch is served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., allowing plenty of time to actually talk and get to know each other.
