Chopped corned beef, onions, potatoes,

and spices mashed together and browned sounds like

nirvana, does it not? Of the myriad breakfast and lunch options at

Coral Bagels, including omelets, bagels (one of the best in Miami),

sandwiches, burgers, house specialties, soups, and salads, with most

items falling between $6 and $7, one item rises to

the top.

Two eggs any style with corned beef hash, potatoes or grits, bagel, and coffee or tea is just $5.49. Add a whopping $0.75 for a side of cream cheese for your bagel, and breakfast for one is still under $7.00 plus tip. The corned beef hash stands out as an atypical breakfast item in Miami. And not only is it unusual, but it's unusually delicious. It's flavorful, browned just right, and contains enough bits of onions and potato to keep it interesting. Armed with a side of grits and, in this case, an egg bagel with cream cheese, it's a hearty breakfast that's sure to keep your belly full for half the day. It is worth noting that they will automatically lightly toast your bagel; so ask for it not to be toasted if that's your preference.

Established in 1986, Coral Bagels isn't exactly a diner; it's just a casual breakfast and lunch restaurant. The seating works on a first come/first serve basis and on the honor system. But one will soon realize that while maintaining a place in line on a busy weekend morning is hard enough, the tactic of swooping in over a table, as it's being bused, is vital The booths and tabletops are covered in a maroon color and bingo hall chairs of blue surround each table.

When the gentleman busing the tables was asked why the mugs are mismatched and feature various corporate logos and slogans, he replied, shaking his head, "I have no idea, my man." The service isn't spectacular, but while the food is worth well more than what you're paying for, you won't begrudge your server an extra couple of dollars.

Coral Bagels is open Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m - 4 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
