According to the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council (no, we didn't make that name up), tomorrow kicks off National Hot Dog Month. To celebrate the "Month of the Wien" and Independence Day, the Hot Dog King himself is hosting his fifth annual hot dog eating contest.
At noon tomorrow, Louie Di Raimondo is inviting ten contestants to his All American Hot Dog Carts showroom to see who can swallow the most wieners in five minutes.
The rules are simple: eat as many as you can, while standing, and without condiments. The first person to finish wins $200.
Just as New York is home to Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating Contest, DiRaimondo hopes people will see this as the official competition in Miami.
"Miami should have its own hot dog eating contest, and that's what I'm instilling and drilling in everyone's mind. We're not competing against any other hot dog eating contest. This all about Miami."
In true Miami style, as contestants chow down, they will be cheered by none other than the Hot Dog Hotties (who DiRaimondo says are like Hooters girls, only it says Louie's All American Hot Dogs on their shirts, and Hot Dog Hotties on their butts).
The competition will feature DiRaimondo's own All American Kosher Hot Dogs. Every contestant will walk home with a pack.
So as the nation prepares to consume enough franks to stretch from D.C. to L.A. over five times for the Fourth of July (there's another Hot Dog & Sausage Council stat for you), come out to watch ten guys try to devour 100 more.
The dogs start cooking at 10 a.m. Contestants can pre-register for free between 10 and 11 a.m. at the showroom.
